If the buttercream is still soft - no problem - just attach it. If it has started to crust, you can use a little bit of buttercream or water (just enough to dampen it), extract, vodka, etc.

I actully make my fondant flowers on spagetti, instead of toothpicks. This way they are edible. I dont grease the ends so that the flowers actully stay on the spagetti. Then I just poke them where I want them. This works especially if you are trying to put flowers on the side of your cake and you don't want the weight of the fondant flower to fall off the side. HTH

If you are making heavy flowers, I would suggest using toothpicks or short dowels. I find that spaghetti breaks easily if you make big flowers.

I meant short skewers not dowels.
