I made an Elmo cake yesterday. The whites of the eyeballs were made in halves using a rounded 1/2 tbsp, and then glued halves together with royal icing and painted the pupils with black americolor.
For the fur I covered cake in red fondant then I took extra red fondant and dipped pieces in water and stretched it like taffy and applied on top of fondant covered Elmo head in wavy shapes. I used the back of my plastic measuring spoon to define the fur.
