Hello - My name is Mitch, and I'm new to this forum. I have one very important question. After collecting baking equipment, and baking for friends and famiy, I am ready to branch out and start a home-based business of decorating cakes. What is the one thing that you wish you knew when you were at the jumping off point that I'm at?

Not to sway from my rules/contract. I am the ultimate one in charge of my business, not the customer. If I'm losing sleep over a customer just because he/she doesn't know how to behave nicely, it's OK to shake him/her loose.

Don't underprice yourself. Don't stress over every little detail. Don't be over critical of yourself. Don't make excuses for yourself/work, just accept the orders and compliments. Don't spend tons of money on every posssible toy.

Welcome Mitch, that's a great question! I'm just beginning too. I agree w/ trisha about spending tons of money on "toys" BUT it is so hard not to!! I see something new & I have to get it! What calidawn said about contracts is right! She sent me a copy of her contracts & there good! Ask her to email it to you to. She's got great help & great advice! My advice would be to research & research!! I spend a lot of time on this forum & internet researching!! The more you know the easier it is! Keep asking questions!! You'll do great! Good luck! icon_smile.gif
