Blind Date Cakes Food Network Challenge

I just caught this episode this afternoon.....taking a break from yardwork. They had a large letter "B" covered with some sort of shiny glitter that I really liked the effect of. It looked almost like glass glitter for crafting....though obviously not.
Does anyone know what it is?
It may be "disco dust". I am not 100% sure because I haven't seen this challenge yet but that is what it sounds like. HTH
I didn't notice it. I'll have to watch it tomorrow night at 7 to see if I can catch a glimpse of it. I love Anne's cake though! It was super cute!
Disco dust. I loved the blue tiles on that on Jennifers cake! I think I love watching Challenges just so you can get cool ideas off of it!

oh me too, i would love to try and make some of those tiles!
Ditto on the tiles! Wouldn't it be cool to make a swimming pool cake (carved) and use that technique? That was my fav cake as well! I liked Orlando's though, too. I think he tried to do what the bachelor wanted and he always does nice cakes. But, ALL the cakes were top notch in my opinion!

Thanks for the info on the dust! There are a couple of other threads on the tiles......I loved that cake too! Made me decide I am going to do tiles for my birthday cake next month! The big 4-0. How could this happen to me??
LOL Anyway, I was going to do some brush embroidery, but after I saw the challenge, I have decided to try the tiles. I love flower gardening, so I'm going to tile a cake and have flowers and maybe some butterflies......I'll see what I think. So the tiles will hopefully call to mind some garden mosaics? Like mosaic stepping stones or bird baths or what have you.

did anyone notice that when anne was icing her cakes she had a masonite board on the top and the bottom. has anyone ever seen/used this technique before?
I loved all the cakes on this show!
I have used masonite as cake boards before, right under each cake tier, but never on top.
im thinking maybe that is how the cakes are so uniform and smooth...
i think pinkziab did an internship at pink cake box. i may pm her to see if she has any insight on this method.
Isomalt with blue coloring; pour into silicone ice cube trays.
Hi everyone, I am attempting my first ever decorated cake tonight and want to try to make these tiles, too. Does anyone have any more info on how to make them? How long do you freeze them? How much of the ingredients do you use? Anything else I should know?
Also, probably a dumb question, and I'm sorry, but if you make a chocolate cake, do you have to cover it in a darker fondant or will white work?
I noticed Anne's technique for icing too! I am also thinking that must be how she gets those edges so smooth and crisp. I'd like to know more about how to do it though for sure!
