I have read several posts where someone has the opportunity to buy an established bakery. Where does someone find out about these businesses that are for sale? Reading it in the newspaper want ads? Just stopping by local businesses and asking if they want to sell? I have thought about someday opening my own... I already work 80 hours a week as a pastry chef... why not work for myself... but don't even know where to look.

Check with local realtors for commercial business'

I actually found out a bakery was for sale when I stopped in to purchase supplies, I was talking to the owner asked how her business was going, told her I was looking to open my own bakery; she told me she was looking to sale her's. I scheduled a meeting we talked about purchasing her business, building and all.

I found another bakery for sale when I called to find out if the owner would answer questions such as who she thought was her biggest competition, what was her slowest periods, what she did to help increase her sales and if she thought her location was the best. She also told me she was looking to sale her business including the building.

Many times you won't find it in the news papers or through a realtor. Many business owners want to keep their sale private for fear of losing their best employees or customers while trying to sale.
