Can anyone give me some tips or advice on making bamboo on a cake? I have an order for the following two weekends, both with bamboo as a border on square cakes. I would like to make it look as realistic as possible. I was planning on experimenting today with rolled buttercream and seeing how that turns out. Anything will be helpful right now! Thanks in advance!

Not sure what kind of cake you are making and if this would work, but I made a zoo cake and used these little peppridge farm lady fingers as the bamboo around the endge of the bottom tier. I am not usually a fan of sticking packaged cookies or candy on the cake, but this was very cute and still looked professional. I got vanilla filled and broke them all random lengths. Of course, this was for a kids birthday cake. I haven't downloaded my pictures yet, but look up zoo cakes and you will find some others.

Let me know Hollylikescake when you upload your pics I am interested in looking at it. But the first one I need to do is with green bamboo with leaves.

Bluehue : Thank you so much!!!! I will watch it as soon as I get a free moment!

I also used bamboo on my Kung Fu Panda cake, I pretty much used the same technique as the video except I didn't completely cut the sections into.

I put a bamboo border on the sushi cake in my pictures. It was actually very easy...I rolled light green ropes of fondant and pinched them every few inches to look like the knobby part of bamboo. Then I used a toothpick to draw a line in the middle of each knobby part. Once it was all on the cake, I painted it with some brown color mixed with vodka.

I have just finished my cake, it is due tomorrow. Thank you everyone for your help, I really like the way it turned out! I will post a picture of it in the next few days, whenever I can get time to upload them.

Hollylikescakes, I like your cookie bamboo, it looks good. I will remember that for future orders.
