So I just delivered a cupcake bouquet, assembled it there and as I put it together they were falling off the toothpicks! Ahhh. What a disaster. Can someone ANYONE please tell me how you stabilize a cupcake bouquet and what recipe you use! HELP HELP HELP! Refunding their money because I was so disappointed
Using more than one toothpick helps, if regular size cupcakes, helps A LOT. I use 3 toothpicks for each cupcake and put the holes in the cupcake before I place it on the bouquet. If possible, whats best is to decorate the cupcake AFTER it is place on the bouquet.
Also, do not use a pound cake recipe or something similar. I recently used one of my favorite chcolate recipes and it did not work for the bouquet. The cakes were leaning so much i thought they may fall any second.
Don't give up!
I use small dowel rods that I have sharpened on the end, add a wrap of floral tape where I want the cupcake to stop on the stick and sit. HTH....
I used the bamboo skewers you buy to make shish kabobs...stuffed a couple of extra toothpicks under each cupcake for support and drove a half hour with them in a clay pot...no problems...Of course I pushed my styrofoam ball down into the pot deeply and then covered with the shreds you buy in a bag....you could also crunch up colored tissue paper and stuff between each....or cover ball with tissue paper and have it hang a bit over pot...use a firm cupcake.
Is everyone using boxed cake mix? That's what I used and it was so moist it just crumbled. Can anyone suggest a firm cupcake recipe?
