I found out in another forum that Maine has a law that you need to be licensed in order to sell legally out of your home. Anyone know what you need to do in order to get licensed? (or know where I can find this info?) If you are licensed, do you need to keep books, etc for tax purposes? Any info anyone has would be appreciated! icon_smile.gif

Here are a few sites that may help answer your questions:
http://www.maine.gov/agriculture/qar/food-regs.html (click on Chapter 345-home food manufacturing)
and for business questions:
www.mainesbdc.org (This is Maine's small business development center-lots of small business info; taxes, etc...)

You also need to check with your own city/town to find out what your local statutes are on home businesses.
Hope this helps.

I also live in Maine and I am in the process of getting licensed to sell out of my home. I am going to be sending in my water test this month and that is basically it except they inspect your home (which I only hope I pass). With 3 small children and a dog I'm going to have to ship them all to grandmas before the inspector comes so it won't get dirty again. Chapter 345 on Depatment of Agriculture site is what applies to us. Another member here at CC pm'd me and sent me the info and she is also from Maine and has been selling out of her home for years. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions I'll help as much as possible.
