I found out last night at the school pow-wow that my boys' elementary school made AYP (adequate yearly progress) for the first time ever!! The teachers were really funny last night because they were so thrilled, they have been working really hard for years to do this in a school full of problems.


I want to take cakes to my boys' classrooms to celebrate but I can't think what to do. My youngest's cake would need to be fairly small, his classroom has 12 students and they're kindergarteners so they dont' eat that much. My oldest is one of about 20 so that cake doesn't need to be huge either, he's in 4th grade if that helps with ideas.

use a round cake pan and a sheet pan to make an award. use the round for the top part of the award and write AYP on it and use the sheet to cut the ribbons/tails and trim to make points. take the left over cake, mush it up into balls and dip in chocolate. place the chocolate balls around the round cake for the effect of a ruffled ribbon. no waste and lots of fun.

You could just do a general school-themed cake, for example, a blackboard with a congratulatory message written in "chalk" on it. Could throw in other items (apples, crayons, etc.) on and/or around it to give it color.
