havn't made red fondant before so i can't give any more advice sorry
It helps to start w/ the pink marshmallows. But I've found it easier to get it as red as I can, let it rest overnight for the color to deepen, & then still paint w/ a red airbrush paint after I cut out/make whatever piece I want red - and I can almost always tell the difference after it's painted.
I had to this three times this week. I think I've finally found the secret to doing it with Wilton colors. Use half a tub of No Taste Red for one batch of MMF. Then add about 1/4 tsp of Red Red and knead in fully. Let it sit about 6 hours and you should have a nice cherry red color.
I had a batch of pink MMF fondant and I added black and red until i got it the perfect red.
I use Americolor Super-red coloring. I still have to use most of one of the small bottles, but it's a really RED red.
The easiest way to get red or black fast without alot of gel, is to use cocoa in the mixture. There`s something in cocoa that brings out the tint better!
I don't have a sprayer, so what other optionsmare there?
I don't have a sprayer either, I just use a paint brush.
i use sugarflair extra strength red - works great and you use so much less colour. its a uk brand i think - also comes in extra strength dark green and black.
Try powdered candy/cake coloring. I like to use it when coloring fondant and gumpaste to keep it from getting sticky. I used it today to make a cherry with gumpaste. It worked great.
I also like to use the powdered colorings in gumpaste, fondant, and even buttercream when I know it will take a lot of coloring to get the color I need (like red, black, dk. blue, ect.)
Also, like Misdawn mentioned, sometimes I start with Wilton No-Taste Red and then add a small amount of Wilton Red Red. That works great too.

this is almost exactly the advice I got today at the cake decorating store I go to. Use powdered color first, then use 2 diff americolor reds, let sit over night.
I always add a tint of black to get the red to deepen a bit if not I get pink and drk pink but not real red.
I have to make a red car next week so I hope I get this figured out soon LOL..guess I will try black with it.
I buy my powdered colors at a local store called the Chocolate Factory. If you have a local candy/fudge store near you I would try them. I Googled "Cake N Candy Powdered Food Col" (since that's the name of mine) on the internet and found several places that sell it.
