Ok so i've just spent the last three hours reading this thread, time worth spending I might add, and would love to try this... There are still a few questions I have tho (can you believe that after 50 pages lol) What should the texture be after the sheets are dry, because you have to conform them to shape, and people have said that it is too pliable, but then it hardens... Maybe my eyes are tired, or I reading into this way to much but what exactly happens after you put it on a sheet and it dries??? Is it pliable, you form it, and then it dries??? I'm sorry if I missed something but I really wanna try this like yesterday... Thankx from the newbie
Forgot to ask about how much airbrush color is added to the gelatin and what the heck is fairy dust or pixie dust or whatever it is lol??? I'm a new baker and not sure about all these items... Ask me how to make the perfect eggplant parmesan, or a beautiful ragu and I can tell you in a heartbeat... Thank you all for your patience...

For the small batch of gelatin, use ONE DROP airbrush color. Believe me, that is more than enough!! Fairy dust and pixie dust are very small granules, like a powder and you don't want to use those because they smear and make life miserable (go ahead, ask me how I know that!) You want to use Disco Dust only because it has huge granules and gives a great shine. Hope that helps!
The gelatin remains pliable after drying. Once it comes off the sheet, it is as dry as it gets. It will not hold a particular shape unless you put a wire in it so you can bend it how you want it to be, or glue it to something (or itself as in the case of the bows) If you make a bow out of it, they are not fragile at all, you could literally throw it and it will bounce. It really is very cool medium to make things with!
This is the first cake that somebody I didn't know, ordered from me. I am pretty excited that I was able to pull it off. The cake is a 10" and a 6" chocolate cake with Duff Goldman's chocolate icing. (I was going to try and make my own but ran out of time.) The flowers are made from gelatin and are edible (grape, lemon and lime), the rocks are chocolate and the picket fence was cut using the cricut cake out of wilton fondant. I used sure cuts alot and made my own design for the fence. When I delivered it, everyone loved it. It made my day to make somebody else's day. The only problem I had is I wasn't sure what to charge. What would you guys have charged for it? Thanks for looking and any responses would really be helpful.

GORGEOUS work!! You did such a great job!! (now, you need a sturdier board underneath cakes like this, the little wilton ones will not usually hold a heavy cake!) Foamcore, or triple those wilton boards.
Thank you for your tips, I finally got the nerve to try this... I went out today and bought the supplies I thought I could use... Since I don't have the impressions I bought some impressions that I saw in Michaels by Duff, not sure if they will work, but we will see... I used wilton teal gel coloring and the color seems good, I just finished painting the medium on soooooo will keep you posted... One question tho, it doesn't look like there is any wire in the bows, is there???
Leticia, your cake is absolutly beautiful!!!!!
Can you eat these gelatin flowers?
Yes you can but since they are made from unflavored gelatin they are not tasty. They also have wire in them which can pose a problem as well.
Ok so I made the sheets and the color is good however the strips are kinda like celephane... They don't break if I bend them but I have a feeling this is not right... Help Please!!!
Nope, that's right!! Now they do cut like paper so paper punches and such are great. Heat (a hairdryer) will help them bend too when forming the loops.
I make my colored flowers with the sugar free flavored gelatin and the kids love them. It's like flavored paper. lol. They are really sweet since it is so concentrated. Kinda sour. If I have to do something clear I use the unflavored but for the most part I just let people know that they have to be careful with the wires.
OMG i've had succeed in making the worlds ugliest bow I am so new at decorating that i'm lost... Please help... How many inches lengthwise and widthwise should the strips be? How many strips do you use per bow? Do the strips get smaller when you get to the middle, and why do my strips crease flat (if that makes sense)??? I've been trying so hard and am getting very frustrated, you all make beautiful pieces and I want so much to do that... I will not give up with your help... Thank you thank you thank you...
Okay...so I have read through most of this thread and tried most of the suggestions, but here is the thing...I can not seem to get rid of all the bubbles! I am making thicker sheets of gelatin that will be cut into windows, so they have to be sturdier and thicker without any bubbles. I have a heating pad under my mat, and that has helped getting the thinkness even, but no matter how much I skim or re-heat, my gelatin is really bubbly. I am using just plain knox. Help please!
Not sure what you are doing wrong there. Don't stir it too much? I don't have many issues with bubbles, so I am not really much help. What kind of brush are you using to paint the gelatin on the mat?
Just received my NEW SET of gelatin veining sheets!! Leaf #5, 6 & 7. Flower # 5 & 6, and then the texture sheets - water, linen, wavy lines, & squiggles. I can't wait to try them out!! If anyone wants the info on where to get them, PM me and I will send it to you. LOVE the new package design too, thanks Di and Michaelle, these are a great addition to the gelatin lineup!
I am using a silpat mat, because I need just plain sheets without any texture and I am using a 3/4 inch artists sable brush, the same kind I would use for royal icing brush embroidery. It finally dried, but it's really curled up and I can't get it to lay flat and oh the bubbles! HELP!
If it curled up a lot, your gelatin was too thin. The brush I use is a flat one, not a "rounded" one. The sheets will release from the mat when they are dry, but they should not curl up.
I think that I have found the more I try to paint over the same spot is when I get bubbles. Sometimes I just load the brush up with the gelatin and kind of drop/drip it onto the sheet. I hope this helps.

Hi I found this myself I hope it helps.

You can make delicate and slightly transparent flowers, bows and butterflies using this technique.
Basically, you mix 2 1/2 parts water and 1 part gelatin (unflavored like Knox NOT Jello! )
Warm in microwave, then let sit 5-10 minutes to allow the scum to raise to the top. Peel the scum off (photo above) then gelatin is ready to use
(youll need to rewarm to liquify at this point.)
Brush onto veining or texture sheet and let it sit for 3-5 hours gelatin will release itself when its completely dry.
Click here for veiners, and impression mats at globalsugarart.com
Once dry, remove the gelatin from your veiner or texture sheet (impression mat or veiner)
You can cut the gelatin with regular scissors, scrapbooking scissors, etc
For the bows, cut into strips, then use a small drop of gelatin to attach together.
Add a paperclip to hold together 10-15 minutes until set, then theyre done.
To form the bow, place a quarter size bit of warm gelatin mix on a plate or pc of plastic add the bows as you would assemble a gumpaste or fondant loop bow.
Let the first layer set up, then add more warm gelatin in the center and add remaining bow loops.

I have had several pm's on the technique lately, and I just wanted to tell folks that there is a free video that is out there, if you would like the address for it, just pm me and I will give it to you.
