thanks again to the two cindys!

Absolutely, you are right crazydoglady, BWB was also most helpful. I neglected to mention it therefore a big THANK YOU as well!

What do you use to get the disco dust to adhere, water?

BWB - that article is the very first posts of this (see page 1!) - it isn't a new one. I think Jackie just made the article instead of making it a sticky. (not complaining!!) It sure makes it a lot easier to find the post for me! icon_wink.gif

NO - do not use water, it will make the gelatin dissolve. You have to use something with a high alcohol content or use warm gelatin or piping gel.

Really cool technique! I am anxious to try it. This may have been covered somewhere in the 31 pages of this topic but does anyone know off hand if this has been used for larger leaves? I am making a cake next week that will have large (like maple) leaves around and on a basket....

i have gelatin molds (the butterflies) and they are about 2 1/2 inches. i also have the "gelatin in bloom" book which was published by the op, diane simmons, and there are instructions for flowers so i don't know why you couldn't make bigger leaves. the op also sells leaf veining molds that you may want to check out.

For folks that are just getting this thread - you have to look at the FIRST pages to get how to do it.

I do not mind at all giving people the link to this posting - the "article" that was posted is NOT a complete how to on this subject, it does not show the complete how to on the bows and such. I have posted multiple times to refer back to this thread. (literally several times a day!) It would have been so much nicer as a sticky. There are NO other posts that have as many hits as this one (almost 44,000 today)

I hope everyone is having fun with it! I am anxious to try some of the christmas flowers to see how they turn out.

BWB - I will do that!

Cathcart - thanks for the bump and that helps - we can just keep it close to the front. icon_wink.gif

Did anyone see the gelatin lego blocks with the lights in them the other night on The Ulitmate Cake Off?? Very cool!

No but that sounds awesome!! Is there an internet picture of them?

I can't find a pic of them. She made a mold out of silicone and used that for the gelatin - after it was done, she used an LED to light it up (I will have to watch the episode again to see where exactly she put the LED) they were very cool though!

I have also pm'd Heath about the sticky.

Thanks Lees!! In the first video - towards the end where Kate is talking about the cake - you can see the gelatin blocks with their lights blinking!

You are welcome. It was odd that a co-worker mentioned this challenge at work on Friday, so we looked up the clips to see the "water slide" on the winning cake. I saw the lights then and thought that they were really neat.

No, I don't think it was hot enough. I am going to try it in some 3D clay molds and see how they come out.

nannie - the gelatin is not real hot - it won't melt stuff like hot sugar will. The stuff is so easy to use - one of my favorite mediums now!

I am not sure, I haven't tried that - if you do try it, please post what your results are! I would think it would release from those surfaces, but again, I haven't tried them.

OMG... you are all SOOOO wonderful helping out w/ all the questions on this! I truly haven't had a chance to get on here in quite some time to see if anyone was having any trouble and needing help - should have known the Cindy's would have my back! icon_wink.gif YOU ROCK!!!

It's so great to see all the idea's everyone is coming up with for the gelatin!!! WooooHoooo!!! I love message boards and all the inspiration they provide! thumbs_up.gif

We're currently working on the 2nd & 3rd book... and I PROMISE - the rose IS part of book 2!!! icon_smile.gif Hopefully they'll both be ready by March! Gotta take a tiny break from it as we're off to England next week (NEC show) to introduce the sheets over there... wish us luck!!! (getting just a liiiiitlle bit nervous about it!) We told our hubby's we may need to sell our plane seats and all have to swim home if things don't go well... icon_biggrin.gif

Di and Michaelle - good luck over seas with the gelatin!! I am (IM) patiently waiting for the newest books. I can't wait to see what all is in them! I am so glad I learned this technique, I have used it so much - it is always an eye catcher!

I know you will do great, your kindness and sharing attitudes will take you far. icon_smile.gif

This is all so beautiful. Thank you so much for being so generous with your information. I spent hours reading through this thread yesterday and just had to try it. I'm too impatient to wait and order an impression mat so I am using plastic cutting boards (one has a bit of texture, one is smooth). I have a feeling though that I painted it on too thick, it's driving me crazy that I have to wait until tonight to see. At my kids' request, I colored the gelatin red and added red luster dust, the color looks great. I'm pretty sure that I will have to send Santa a link to the Cake Connection website icon_smile.gif.
