Hi All

I really need help on this one. My mum has chosen a 1920's theme for hwer 60th birthday party and I need to make a cake. I have no ideas what so ever - this is very rare - I am stumped!

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Clair

When I think of the 1920s, I think of 'The Jazz Age'. I love the look of the flapper's headpieces. Maybe you could do an elegant tiered cake with pearls as the border and a feathery headpiece as a cake topper.

Michelle Foster did a wonderful roaring 20s cake that I've always loved: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=66241

This is a cute idea. I saw it in person at the Cincinnati Sugar Art Show.

Jada made that fringe sparkle with a dust. It was a cake that really stood out!

Hmmm, this is a tough one! I did a search on google and found a couple ideas for you. I really like the feather ideas! They are very 1920's!
Good luck to you and please post pics when you get a chance. icon_smile.gif

I found this one... really nice design. You could use 1 or 2 tiers and add feathers to get a true 1920's look.

To me the roaring twenties are illustrated by Art Deco style. I think Ziegfield Follies, Erte, and Lalique. You could go the vintage route, using muted colors such as coral, jade, and peacock blue. Or go bright and bold with with traditional black & white with a pop of red. Use clean lines and geometrics, but make it luxurious. Pearls, beads, crystals, and feathers are all appropriate. If you use flowers you can gild the edges of petals with silver or gold for an authentic 1920's touch. There are so many fun directions you could go with this. A quick google search can provide you with tons of inspiration. Even the stained glass and architecutre of the day may give you a jumping off point. Best of luck. Now I'll have to find an excuse to make a 1920's cake too!

Also if you do a search on Clarice Cliff, that will give you some vintage art deco/1920s ideas.

Here's an art deco cake that Ron Ben Israel did. Maybe that will help with some ideas. (Can you tell I'm getting into this thread??) icon_lol.gif
