I'm going to make an up to scale tennis racquet cake and have been trying to think of ideas for the strings. Any ideas would be appreciated. I guess I could use fondant, but I would like something easy peasy! thumbs_up.gif
Thanks for your help!

use a extruder or clay gun and press out the strings. It is so easy peasey. The next would be to use RI and pipe it out and then insert in the middle of the rack. HTH

Thanks for your ideas. I thought of the twizzlers but can't find them in anything but red or black and the strings are white icon_sad.gif Unless something better comes up, I'll probably use the fondant so that I can weave them like a racquet. The spaghetti idea is good but again, wrong color and can't weave it. Seems like the RI strings would break too easy (at least for me) I'm too prone to that kind of thing. If you think of anything else, I'm staying close for answers! thanks again!

Get your white RI in a bag w/a round tip, insert the thin spaghetti into tip with just a little spaghetti sticking out. Squeeze the bag as you gently pull out the spaghetti out. this will give it more stability. The clay guns also work well. And gumpaste will harden quicker than fondant, as will 50/50 gumpaste/fondant.

How big is the tennis racket?

I used thread on a guitar cake I made. I have also used jewellery wire as well for strings.

I would think the royal icing. You wouldn't do it string by string. You would do all of the strings...then lift the whole piece and put it in place.

totally agree with this one, and it wouldn't be too difficult.

You could always use melted sugar....not as easy as the others but wold look the part.

maybe have it in a squeeze bottle and just squeeze out what you need on parchment paper in the shape fitting into the racket...

LOL but it maybe more work than it's worth... just a thought icon_smile.gif

The racquet will be the same size as a real one. Oh, I like the idea of piping the RI & then lifting it off onto the cake. I was thinking, make each string, let dry, then apply each one to cake (DUH!) That seems to be the easiest and I'm all for easy. Same would work for the gumpaste too......Ummmm, decisions, decisions. Nice to have options. Thanks ya'll!

I think piping the royal icing for the entire net of the racket...then lifting off of the parchment (carefully and without breathing LOL), then applying to the racket itself...like one stop shopping

This is exactly what I had in mind. If you use the spaghetti, use the angelhair, it is thinner. You would then add more bulk with RI. If you use the extruder, use the 50/50 mix so you will have time to weave it. You can airbrush the logo on with a stencil.

I have to do a guitar for my son in June, and this is what I am going to use.

Sugar Veil is also an option. It will be flexible.
