New Front Page Discouraging - Page 3

I've been reading this thread and posted my own opinion already but was thinking this isn't the first thread I've seen discussing the current changes to the site so has anyone here seen a reply from Heath or Jackie stating what the final changes are going to be? Maybe they are going to bring more photos to the front page and this is just the temporary layout until all changes are complete? Rather then have numerous threads discussing this it would be nice to hear what the final changes will look like so we can all know what we can expect?

I also agree with the majority of this thread. I was so looking forward to the most popular mother's day cakes. icon_sad.gif I loved the old set up because when my cakes would make the most popular cake added today (and it wasn't very often) It made me believe that people liked what I was doing and it gave me HUGE inspiration to keep tring to do better. It's just disappointing to see the flawless cakes on the home page only.

The same goes for me. I would pop in every time almost every hour and see different cakes every time. And now with the new layout, I come every other day and there are still the same cakes in the gallery. Also, new posts have gone way down.

As someone said, it doesn't seem fresh now. On the other hand, I like the loggin bettern now.

Thank you for all the work you are putting into CC but lease go back to the old layout.

Ditto to what everyone else said! Love the site info, new layout is also slow to load on my PC. Old one was quick and more interesting. I know how to access tutorials and recipes, I would rather see the cake pictures. I would even like to see a section that were whoops, what was I thinking cakes. Disaster cakes, or just plain ugly cakes. I uploaded a few on my cakes the other day and while looking through my portfolio, boy did I have some stinkers icon_razz.gif

There is a website called cake wrecks( http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/)
I was addicted to all day yesterday. Anyone else see it? Too funny icon_biggrin.gif

As a inexperienced caker I have to say I prefer the old homepage, many more pictures to view, although I do look at the galleries for ideas but don't always have time. I have posted pictures on the site and have received feedback (no feedback comments posted since the changes). I enjoy the feedback, I know I'm not a professional and there are many many talanted people on CC but for me those comments give me a little WTG. I will continue to bake and decorate regardless but that WTG for me is great incouragement.

CC rocks regardless, and hey you can't please everyone all of the time. icon_biggrin.gif

Even though I'm always very very quiet around the CC site, I'm sooo addicted to it, that I log in very often just to see what's new.

I honestly thought I was the only one that felt so SAD, DISCOURAGED, and FRUSTRATED by the new web layout. thumbsdown.gif

But then I found this marvelous thread, where we can all share all those negative emotions we are feeling right now. icon_sad.gif

I have to agree with those who have said that H & J's work is incredible. I'd say, irreplaceable for all us CC fans, but maybe they're wiling to take on some of the suggestions and comments people have made on this thread, because I don't think the result they are aiming for with the new layout is for people to use the site less and less, or be unhappy about it.

Please, please, H&J, consider leaving the best features of the old layout (the way the photos showed up at the start page: new, popular, season, all-time, etc), while at the same time introducing things like Flash Player or those little gadgets that make a site look more "modern". There MUST be a way we're all happy with. Thanks.

cookiesbymomme, there is a section where you can upload "disaster cakes"

Well, I love the new homepage and the am happy for the much needed overhaul.

It is faster, sleeker, and less clunky and I don't have to wait 10 minutes for things to load.

I don't even think they are done yet, so who knows what other features they have coming.

Like every technological advance, it may take a while to get used to, but overall, it will be much more efficient in the long run.

I am glad that CC has taken the time to update the site - but I must agree with the lack of representation for the new cake designers.

Like most new cake decorators I get a thrill whenever I see my picture posted or someone makes a comment! I am always happy to see experts doing their thing - it inspires me to go on and practice.

For me, personally, it is a ego and confidence boost. Plus I feel part of a community of women and men who really love this craft and it is cheating them out of some "spotlight" time.

Whew...that is off my chest!

Absolutely, Heath has responded!!! Please be patient, the front page is a work in progress. Everyone should know to trust Heath and Jackie! Web layout takes time. So far, I think what we have is an awesome peak at what will be an incredible new look!

go to page three to read Heath's comments...

They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the flour for the grain offerings, the unleavened wafers, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size.

It is discouraging to me also. I do not get excited to see pics anymore cause they are the same ones all the time. I don't have time to go through and click to see the new pics added, that is why I liked the old layout better. I also liked seeing today popular ones and the all time favs. I do appreciate the effort, I write code also so I know they are putting a lot of effort into this.

Actually, Heath's full explanation is on page two, and his admonition is on page three. icon_lol.gif

(this is all said in a jovial mode, so no one get their panties in a bunch thinking I'm insulting anyone thumbs_up.gif)

If you go to the forum index for "Suggestions" (where we are now) and look down about three threads, you'll see a similar thread, "I miss the homepage", here Heath addresses your concerns.

What it mostly boils down to is, the homepage is not done yet. So hang on. Like I tell my kids, "wait until all is said and done, THEN you can complain!" icon_lol.gif

That being said, I really like the new format, and am anxious to see what it'll look like when it is all done.

This is what happens when the kids distract you, someone beats you to the punch. icon_lol.gif

I agree with this post, I prefer the old page. I liked seeing the cakes everyone made, even the new decorators. I am not as interested anymore as the same cakes are on the homepage all day. However, I love this site and I know Jackie and Heath are trying to improve it. It's just that what makes this site great is that it includes the newbie and the professionals together as a community, helping each other, and that included side by side pics on the homepage.
