New Front Page Discouraging

I LOVE this site - LOVE it. But I'm having my very first big criticism with the re-do.

It seems to me that now the only pics I see rotating on the front page are the 'very very nice, high level of talent' ones. They are gorgeous -

please don't misunderstand me, but what about the newbies? When I started and used to see the 'kinda nice and trying hard to get better' ones, they gave me hope!

Just seeing the perfect ones doesn't seem fair...

Am I the only one?

I prefer the old setup too. I hope they are still update the site and some old features will return when completed.

Yup, I agree. I'm not even bothering to upload photos anymore as I don't see how anyone is going to see them unless they go to the galleries to look at the 'Last uploads'! It seems pointless now.

I agree, I like seeing all the cakes. I guess I can go the the gallery to see them. I have learned so much from all the cake, not just the perfect ones. Of course I am still striving to reach that level and am constantly amazed by the level of expertise icon_biggrin.gif (maybe jealous, lol)

I beg you, GO TO THE GALLERY!!! Click on "last uploads", don't sleep on this. There are a lot of really nice photos that I would have missed!

I know there are a lot of changes and everyone is adjusting but the pics are there we just have to be a little more proactive to see as many as we may like. icon_smile.gif

I agree 100% - bring back the "old" home page!!!! Jackie & Heath, I feel so bad even being a little critical of anything on this site because I know how hard you work and CakeCentral is SO invaluable to me....but, I really, really dislike this new setup, and my criticism is just "constructive". I used to love to pop on, when I had a minute, and look at everyone's cakes that were just uploaded. Now, unless I go to the "last uploads" section, I can't do that....sometimes I don't have time to look through the new uploads section. Now, all I see are the same maybe 10 cakes scrolling almost all day long.....(granted, these cakes are wonderful and beautiful, but it's taken away the new uploads that I might have seen on the former home page). I notice that far more cakes are getting missed and are not getting commented on either because of the above reasons.

I don't think it's necessary to take up the majority of the home page with all of those links to tutorials and recipes....while those are a truly helpful resource, I would rather have more photos and have the tutorials somewhere else than the home page. I also used to like the section where you'd have "Popular Mother's Day Cakes, etc." and now that's gone too. Just my honest feedback....

Now that someone else has started it, I can now talk.I don't like the new home page at all,I must confess I have logged on less since its been on cos it's quite discouraging.
I prefered the other one because there was a lot of cakes,new,old, popular,newly posted etc. But now it's just a set of cakes at a perticular time,the other one was more user friendly.

I thought it was just me, being an old fogey who is resistant to change, but I prefer the old set up better, too. I liked viewing all the favorites, latest uploads, etc. I also agree with Michele25 that more photos and less space for recipes and tutorials would be ideal. That being said...I was thrilled to see that my "Funky Flamingo" cookies made the home page photos!

Got to agree with everyone else. I liked the variety of pics on the old page, not just the same handful.

I agree. This is the 4th post complaining about the new home page that I have posted on though. Hopefully they're just not finished with the new layout yet?
Much prefer the previous setup with, popular seasonal cales, popular today cakes, latest upload cakes.

Ditto to all the above. I don't post cakes anymore. No one's gonna see 'em unless they intentionally seek me out. Who's gonna do that....?

The site doesn't seem as "fresh" to me now. Used to be I could click on it pretty much any time of day and see new cakes. Now it seems like the same ones all day, so once I get on and see ones I've already seen, I don't even scroll down to read the latest messages. So I'm on for like three seconds, then off.

I've only been checking back periodically to see if it's changed!!

C'mon Jackie & Heath - you know all us cakers love seeing, admiring, and even criticizing our work, and that of others - bring it back!

Me too! I like the old style better. I know they are still working on it, so hopefully it gets better!

I agree with everyone else here. I really miss the old homepage, not only the last uploaded but also the all time favorites - it was a goal of mine (well more like a pipe dream icon_lol.gif ) to one day see one of my cakes there. I love this site it's really the only place I feel I can go to get honest opinions on my cakes and chat with others who truly understand what time/effort goes into cake decorating and I'm not sure now that if I upload new pictures that they'll get the views icon_sad.gif
