hi eveyone, i have made my 2nd wedding cake and though i am happy with it on a couple of the layers there are a couple of areas where the fondant is cracked, is there a way to fix this quickly. i have covered most of the cake in scroll work but the cracks still show.

maybe dip a brush in some watyer or vanilla and work the cracks together? I'm not an expert, but that's the 1st thing that came to mind. Hopefully someone else will come along with real advice lol

mix up some royal icing in the same colour as your fondant, make sure it is thick. put some over the cracked areas with a spatuala (imagine spack filling plaster with plaster filler) scrape of excess then with a damp (not wet) brush smooth it over and clean it up, leave to dry. works perfectly!!

I agree with adatay.
I had a 5 tier stacked wedding cake and it was cracking in places. I believe it's diamond elegance in my phoths, anyway, I had to go to Wal-Mart (super close to venue) to get more ribbon (oh yeah, one of those days!) and I didn't know what to do. I didn't have any royal icing in my kit, and I was 1/2 hour from my shop. So I bought some Wilton Cookie Icing. I had an offset spatula, and it worked like a dream!
So make sure to make it the same color as your fondant, and you'll do just fine!

its easy reyou need to test the colour to see if itys a match start at the back so if its slightly different and you need to adjust it you can't see it, but you will be able to wipe it off anyhow, let me know if you have any quesitons icon_smile.gif

You can also thin down a piece of your fondant then apply it the way you would royal icing.

f the fondant has cracked, use the solid vegetable shortening and smooth the cracked area together, using a circular motion. Don’t use water because that will break down the fondant.
