I posted a question about this earlier, but I can't find it.

I ordered some pre-made gumpaste and royal flowers over the internet and did not read the fine print. When they arrived, they said "Not for human consumption" I don't have time to make 100s of flowers now. I see some of you do pearls and other things on your wedding cupcakes. Do you put up a sign, pearls inedible? What do you suggest I do?
Please help! Desperate!

Most likely the reason that they say they're not for human consumption is that they dry so hard that someone might break a tooth, or that they're not made in a licensed kitchen and that state requires it.

When I put flowers or pearls on a cake, they're made with fondant so they're edible.

Thanks Texas Rose. I revised the contract saying the server had to remove all the flowers before serving. The bride is ok with it, but I feel bad. I will NEVER make that mistake again. PS The Company never emailed me back.

I don't think it's necessary to remove the flowers from the cupcakes before you serve them. If they're made from gumpaste and RI, they're edible. As a PP said, they probably just say they're not for human consumption because they're so hard.

Eat one yourself and see what you think. I put gumpaste, RI, dragees, on all kinds of cakes and they don't hurt anyone. One customer told me her kids ate all twelve gumpaste roses I'd put on her cake. They were hard as rocks, and they were on wires!! The wires would be the only thing I'd worry about.
