Fondant Quilting???

I will be doing a wedding cake very soon and she wants it the quilted fondant look. How do I do the quilting? Do I make the markings on the fondant and then place it on the cake? And if so, is it easy to tell that the lines are straight? Or do I make the markings after I place the fondant on the cake? Please Help! Thanks so much for your time! icon_sad.gif

Hi Jamie -

In my opinion, the easiest way to quilt fondant is to use the three diamond quilter. It's so easy and so impressive! See cake below. I use it in conjuction with the larger toothed stitch wheel. I put a normal layer of icing and a thin layer of white semi-homemade white chocolate fondant. This gives such a nice "puffed" out look.

You also can use quilting mats, but to really join us the lines in the back, the quilter does a better job.

Jennifer, that cake is beautiful! Is it the quilter that gives it the puff look?

Thank you destyrn.... the quilter puts the lines on the fondant and does indent it a bit, but the larger toothed stitch wheel REALLY puffs it out. I think having the normal layer of icing with the thin fondant also helps with the puffiness. If you want me icing recipe, I'm happy to share it.

but JenniferMI, how'd you make your tiny
flowers and attach them to the quilted tier
of the attached pic?!?!?

Those flowers are SOOOooo easy! I use the blossom set. E-mail me.

I just attach them with a dot of buttercream.
