Pillow Cake - Need Advice
Decorating By GipsyGourmet Updated 29 Apr 2009 , 1:01am by deliciously_decadent
I have been contracted to make a pillow cake -- this will be my very first carved cake and I'm very apprehensive. I've pulled the article from CC about how to make a pillow cake and I think I can do it. For those of you who have made a pillow cake, I welcome any and all tips/suggestions and I would like to know what size pan would I need to use in order to ultimately end up with a pillow cake that serves 50?
Also, the pillow cake direction on CC is really for a throw type pillow and the invitation that my client sent me is more like a pillow you would actually sleep on, any suggestion on making the pillow look more like one you sleep on rather than a throw pillow?
Thanks for any tips, suggestions, comments, etc.

pillow cake are actually really easy when you get in and do it!! i would make it rectangle instead of square for starters and i would also indent the spot where you head goes as most bed pillows have a sunken area from overuse in this spot other than that i would do it in the same manner obviously no need for quilting or tassles etc lol! size wise i would go with a 14'x11" rectangle to serve 50 allowing for the loss of cake in carving here are a couple i have done:
