Calling all FLORIDA home bakers - Lets get the law changed! - Page 4

MCC is correct. You CAN have a home-based food business as long as it is a separate kitchen from what you use for everyday use. It's the separate entrance/separate facilities piece that we feel should be changed. Now, if we could use our kitchen, we, too, wouldn't mind being inspected here.

In order to start our business, we were approved through the Department of Agriculture as a wholesale bakery because we were using our friend's cafe kitchen to make our cakes. However, driving 20 miles away to make the orders 2-3 times per week (sometimes more) and having to keep our supplies and tools there was a pain in the you-know-what. And, of course, he had his own uses for his space.

The problem with food-based businesses in Florida is that there are different departments in Tallahassee regulating with different rules depending upon what kind of food business you want to run.

We will need to coordinate our efforts into a concerted effort so that we're all working towards the common good.

Feel free to PM us and we'll help in whatever way we can.

LOVE YOU GUYS!!! thank you so much!!

I mostly have my letter complete - I need some legal verbage from the code to add and I have a stupid question - what do you call a Legislator - sir, mr. representative??? I surely don't want to insult him before he even reads the letter!! haha!!

Ok - aside from a few short breaks to take care of my child - I have been working on this all day, so clearly my brain is starting to fry - please help me -

I cannot find the exact verbage in chaper 500 stating that residential kichens are illegal or what it would take to be legal (adding commercial kitchen to your property). I really need this to add to the letter.

after I get this I will post the letter that I have written for everyone to copy and modify to suit your story and send off to your respective representatives......

Thank you all so much for you support!!!

things to do right now - PM ALL THOSE FLORIDA BAKERS THAT YOU KNOW AND TELL THEM ABOUT THIS THREAD. I was trying to do it throught the memberlist - what a pain in the a$$ that turned out to be - did you know that we have 4156 pages of members! I KNOW!!

And I am still looking through this darn 212 page document and not finding what I need - any help there would be great - I need the exact verbage used in the code that make residential kitchens illegal.

I am getting so excited about this!! I really think we can do this. After reading what Texas went through - I have faith in the power of the people!! (I feel like I'm rallying for women's rights or protesting a war or something!! haha - burn your oven mitts!! hehehe)!!
