OMG that is great.. GO for it. I live in IL and my friend and I would love to do this as well. Would I look up the same Cottage Law for IL? Our state does not allow home kitchens. Any information to start this in IL would be helpful. Thanks Ladies and Good Luck!!! I behind you all the way.
I JUST got this email tonight - I am not 100% sure on how to answer her question -but I think this MIGHT be our foot in the door!!!!
Hello Ms. Waters,
As we begin getting ready for the 2010 Session, Rep. Proctor wanted me to inquire if you had any updates on the prospect of your legislation.
Thank you for your time,
Alison Johnson, Legislative Aide
Representative Bill Proctor; District 20

I emailed her back and told her that we are still looking for a sponsor and that in this economy it is even more important to get this passed. We will see what she has to say.
I am wondering if everyone should send another letter to their local representative as well as to this rep - so that he understands how many there are of us but also let your local reps know you are serious too?
I don't know..... I'm just guessing here.... I really was not expecting to get an email from him (or his office).
ALL IDEAS are welcome!!!
Hi everyone! I will be moving down to Florida to get married as of the first of November so if there is anything I can do to help please let me know. I'll be busy with some things for the wedding on November 20th but besides that I will not be working or anything until the new year.
I would love to help out in any way possible.
Has there been any new news regarding this post? I live in central Florida and would love to get my cakes out there too!
Oh my goodness!!! I'm anxiously awaiting to hear the outcome of this too!
Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help as well. I am more than willing to write a letter, but I would have to think that I would write first
I haven't read through the whole post (it's been a rough morning). Is there anything we can do to help change the law? I'm all for giving any help or services that I can!
we can't do anything except send letters to your local reps until we find a rep to support the bill.
If someone can find a local rep willing to sponsor the bill then we can really get started on something.
The support on this thread is awesome!!!!
EXACTLY!!!
ohhhhhh!!! maybe we can pick a day and everyone bake a small cake for their local rep and drop it off with a letter explaining our situation - if we all do it on the same day that would make some news and get some attention!!!
Reps travel sometimes don't they? I am assuming at the office would be the most business like place to approach this subject while bribing with sweets. So where are all the FL Reps offices at?

This is where you can find your local rep, you can click on his/her name and get all their contact information.
I will call and see when my local rep is supposed to be in the office and then maybe we can set a "take your rep a cake day"! (or cookies or whatever you want to bake!)
Found my Rep and He's Jewish so should I bake Kosher Parve... at least I have plenty of experience in that as it correlates loosely to dairy allergies and I know what else to do to go all the way Kosher ingredient wise.
Sounds good! I'm in!!! Just let us know what day you pick...I'll be bakin! I mean, how can someone say no to a bunch of sweets?
Okay, I just emailed my rep. Offered a coconut cream cake infused with Meyers Rum and layered with whipped cream and toasted coconut.
How can he refuse?

How can he refuse?
Only if he's a nut that doesn't like coconuts.

I wrote my Rep. today. Robert C. Schenck. We shall see what he says! I'll post when I get a reply. Keeping fingers crossed!
There is a bill in the senate right now called the Florida Food Freedom Act of 2010. It concerns farmers, farmers markets, and roadside stands, but some folks say it also pertains to in home baking. Here is the link to a thread talking about it. I emailed Senator Baker a couple of days ago asking if home baking would be allowed, no reply yet.

I emailed Senator Baker
Am I the only one who finds his name ironic?
That is why I emailed the originator of the bill, to ask him if home baking will be allowed. If I get a response, I will post it here.
cakefort, that one passed right by me
