Ok. My daughter is graduating this year. She just went to prom last night and wants her graduation cake to be inspired by her dress.

Ok now I know there are many many zebra cakes out there but I need ideas of something really out there. Something so special!

Also I have no idea how to do zebra stripes. Is there a template anyone has or do you just wing it!

Here is the prom pics so you can see her dress....see it is not just zebra.

What a pretty, unique dress!

I haven't done any zebra print, but I think if I did, I would cut the black fondant with a wheel cutter and then stick it on the white, curving the strips. If you were doing some small spots too like that dress has, the small spots could be painted on or you could apply them too.

A black cake with a zebra print drape would be pretty neat looking. The drape could be done to mimic the way the zebra print goes across the dress. You could make a graduation cap and set that on top of the drape. I think some hot pink accents would soften the look a little bit, maybe hot pink flowers with bright leaves, if you didn't want the whole thing to be black and white.

the easiest way to do the stripes is cover your cake in white fondant roll out your black and cut it into jagged strips then place on cake in order but leave gaps of white the same thickness and the black
can;t wait to see it so make sure you post it here!! and your daughters dress is to die for i love it!!!!

oh how cool is that dress?

ok, so first...get some black Satin Ice because coloring your own black is enough to make you wanna slap your momma. lol
How big is her party going to be?
Id probably go 3 tiers.

First 2 tiers, black with a section of thin, white zebra stripes starting at the base and spiraling around and up thru the 2nd layer ending at the base of the top layer, piping small white dots radiating from that zebra spiral (larger dots to smaller til they almost disappear, topping some of them randomly with silver dragees).

Top layer, white with black fondant zebra stripes, brushing the edges of some of them with silver petal dust.

Then for a topper?....um...thats where I lost my vision lol

I cant wait to see what you come up with!

Thanks guys. I really like the ideas. Now that you see the dress you see it isn't just a zebra dress there is so much more to it so that is why I didn't want to just do a zebra dress. I am going to sketch some ideas and see what pops the best.

I like the sparkle idea, I think I might throw some sugar diamonds on it. I also love the drape idea.

And yes I love her dress too. It is so my style and I was so surprised that she actually picked it out. Lord they grow up so fast though!....My avatar is her daughter by the way.

Sorry, this was over a year ago. The cake I did for her was:

She decided she wanted it stacked and the pink flowers. I added rhinestones to mock the ones on her dress.

Your cake came out beautiful! I love it! It's so pretty!
I did my sons wedding cake. It was very stressful. It's hard to work on a wedding cake, and get to the wedding on time, unrushed, unhurried, chill-axed and ready to enjoy the wedding.
I'm glad I did it, but I might want to re-think a couple of things if I had to do it again.

This was her graduation cake. I had such a time getting her to decided on a design for her grad cake I hate to see getting her to decide on a wedding cake.
