A bride-to-be sent me this picture as something she'd like me to make for her.
The top 3 tiers seem do-able. But the cut-outs on the bottom tier have me stumped. I can't seem to find any cutters similar to this, and I can't imagine someone hand cut all those shapes.
The bride says it doesn't have to be identical, so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The colours will be coral, orange and yellow instead of the green and brown, if that makes any difference.
You won't find cutters for these patterns either. These are piped designs.
The middle tier is made of different sizes of cut fondant, laid on top of BC.
The whole cake should be fairly simple to construct. All you need is a good pizza cutter, and couple of cake tips.
You can do this one easy!!!
I'd print off the picture to use as a reference and have a practice on a dummy or a peice of parchment paper, first to get comfortable with it.
Cute cake by the way.....good luck to you!
If you need anymore help just let me know!!

If I were you I would probably (on the bottom tier) pipe your design with a lager round tip and then use a paint brush to feather the icing out. I don't know if that makes sense but it is like what you would do to make the Hawaiian flowers when using icing on a cake. It is in the Wilton course book two or three and there are tons of this type of thing on CC. You could probably pull it off that way - in fact, it would probably look pretty cool! Good luck and make sure to post a pic of your cake Can't wait to see it!!
I found this cutter, it's not exactly the same but it's close I think:

Here's a page full of scroll cutters that you could "scroll" through and see if you like any of those, there's a few there that I think could work really well with your design.
This site has pretty good prices on those scroll cutters:

here's another one:

The other thing I was thinking is maybe finding a stencil and perhaps painting the design on instead of using cutouts.
If you end up going with one of the cutters I would suggest you google the cutter to find the best price (inc s/h).
HTH!
Thanks guys!
Why did I not think of stenciling or piping? *smacks forehead*
Thanks for the link to those cutters, xstitcher. I am in Canada, so I imagine the s/h plus customs fees would be atrocious. :S

I don't know about the s/h but I think the customs fees should be $0. If I remember correctly you can buy $20 worth of items without having to pay any duty on it (I left Calgary 10 months ago but I don't remember the exact amount off the top of my head nor do I know if anything's changed since then ).
I see that everyone else had the same idea with the stencils/piping. It just took me a while to hit the submit button while I looked up the cutters for you. Maybe Golda's carries them or try PM HobbyCraft in Calgary (just 2 that come to mind right now). Good Luck!
You could use a cutter similar to that shape then slice/feather the edges with an exacto(sp?) knife
I'm confused. Are we all looking at the same cake? What I'm seeing is a green, black, and white cake with piping on the top and bottom tier, fondant stripes on the middle tier, with a bead border that looks like it was piped with a 5 tip. I don't see any flourishes that need to be cut out. What am I missing here?

I was thinking the same thing, it looks piped to me, whats all the cutter talk? Unless the bride specifically said all fondant???
But even with fondant, if you get some tracing paper, trace some scrolls, and trace them onto the fondant with a pin, there's no need for a cutter.
Theresa
it is 4 tiers. I was looking at the bottom tier.
You could definitely use a template, I just assumed by what you said in your post that you would rather use a cutter! lol
looks stenciled because it's piped and then flattened out. I would pipe it in a crusting buttercream and then flatten it lightly with a viva paper towel...looks like buttercream on fondant to me
I apologize. The way the pic came up for me, the bottom tier is so dark that I thought it was a cake plate or something. I took it and brightened it in Photoshop to actually see it. I guess I need to check the brightness setting on my computer.

The picture really does cut off the bottom tier. I actually found the original picture on the decorator's website, and emailed him. He said he cut all the shapes from fondant BY HAND to match the invitations! Yikes! I think I will probably do a damask stencil....although the colours are coral (pink), orange and yellow, which to me is pretty funky, and damask seems more classic. So I am still thinking on that.
Here is a full picture if anyone is curious...
