I have to make a cross cake for sunday, and could not find a cross pan anywhere in my town so I figured I will just carve it out of the 9x13. my question is since it's carved what is the best way NOT to get a ton of little crums throughout the icing? Is doing a crumb coat letting it completly set then the actual coat the best or is there something else I can do?
Thank you so much for your expertise!

I only know of doing the crumb coating and let is harden alittle. I mostly cover all my cakes in fondant. Hope that helps
