What Type Of Frosting Should I Use Under Fondant?

I would like to know what is better to use on cakes under fondant? I am doing a cake for this weekend and in the past I have put regular whipped frosting under fondant, but I was told that the best thing to put is butter cream. I am confused and I really want this cake to look great, Can anyone tell me what's the best frosting to use please?
Definitely buttercream. I have seen some sad pics of whipped icing cakes covered in fondant when the icing starts to melt. There are a lot of different buttercream recipes in the recipe section. Just make sure that it's non crusting, because you want the fondant to stick to it, and that you use a very thin layer, so your fondant is smooth and not bumpy due to the displacement of buttercream. Good luck!
you can use crusting bc, but it either has to be uncrusted or spritzed with water when you apply the fondant.

Thank you to both of you for the help. The cake came out really nice and everyone loved it
Would cream cheese frosting work under fondant? I'm making my first fondant cake, and I want to make carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, covered with fondant.
you can use cream cheese bc, but you may run into issues depending on if your recipe needs refridgerated, as fondant doesnt always do well in the fridge, you can get problems related to condensation.

Ah. I didn't even think of that. If I use regular buttercream underneath and make the cake Saturday, will it be okay to eat Monday night if left out on the counter?
THANK YOU for the help!
left out but covered (just to protect it, yes. (again assuming the bc doesnt need to stay in the friday, most dont)

Thank you so much! I appreciate the help! One more question. Yes, I'm THIS new to fondant! =) What do I cover it with? What's best?
I use a "full bodied" icing under my fondant. I think if you use to soft or a whipped cream type, people tend to have issues..not everyone...but I think your chances are greater.
I have a great recipe and am willing to share it. E-mail me. I only use my semi-homemade white chocolate fondant. LUV choc. fondant!!!!

i used crusting BC (indydebi's) under my fondant, and i didn't have to spritz any water at all. the cake was fine, fondant stuck to it well.
