Ya know, I cannot understand why with all of the negativity out there concerning Wiltons fondant that the company has not made a change in thier product. I have never read anything posative about the taste of it and when you consider that the product is really pretty easy to work with, you would think that they would know how much of a market share they are loosing to the more expensive brands.
they must make enough money on it not to bother.
they have a steady stream on newbies coming in through their classes. and unless they get really into cakes, and find somewhere like CC, they might never realise there is other, better fondant out there.
it seems like the people who come on here have never tasted good fondant so dont know theres better out there.
and i guess as wilton is the only easily available fondant (it seems i live in the uk, what do i know, lol) they dont have any real immediate compition.
xx
I like the MMF. It is easy to make, easy to work with and doesn't cost a lot to make. And it taste good. I tried Wilton once.
I guess they count on the sales to people who don't know better lol
I know better...Now!
After taking the Wilton Classes and hating the Fondant...I began to search for other types...I was so happy to find CC.

I am one of those newbies in fondant that has realized there should be something else better out there. The Wilton's has worked well for accents (my brother ate all the bees on my beehive cake.) I am going to try MMF from the recipe I found on here. I'll let you know how it turns out. Has anyone ever tried to knead in flavoring to the Wilton's fondant? Would it need to be oil-based or extract? I love the help I get on CC.
ok i am one of those newbies that uses wiltron, thus far ive made cakes for friends fam etc and its works well for me...now that I am starting a bussiness....i want better....satin ice seems $$$$$
What do you suggest? What makes satin ice taste better? is it worth it?
Anyone have an answer on flavoring Wilton fondant?
Use LorAnn candy oils. Lots of flavor, little liquid.
You can also knead unsweetened Kool-Aid and other powdered drink mixes into fondant, but it will also add color.
I teach with Wilton fondant but use Satin Ice. It's not expensive. About $60 for a 20 lb pail shipped to my door.
Shellycakes, I think you will find that most people who dont want to make it themselves will reccomend either Satin Ice or I believe the other is Fondex. I know Chocopan has a good reputation for chocolate fondant. I personally preffer Fonderific because of its wide variety of flavors and the excellent customer service I have recieved from them. If you want to make it yourself (I just dont like to myslef) marshmallow fondant is pretty yummy and I know there are some people who really like Michelle Fosters. I think you just need to find what works for and your budget. I think I am going to contact Wilton and see what they have to say about thier product just for grins.
