Heck, when they had the public hearing for the bill we are trying to pass in TX to get home bakeries to be legal... One of the committee members asked the head of the Health Department if really it's just "don't ask, don't tell" policy right now and her reply was something like, "Well, yeah."

My point is most health departments don't have the time to be scouting out illegal cake ladies. I'm not saying this should encourage us all to be illegal I'm just saying that if you get an email it's more than likely your "competition".

Maybe, but we are talking about this situation and this person who is harassing her. She said she has her name, address and ss#. Thats harassment. If she had a leg to stand on she would have done it. If someone contacted me for any reason saying these types of things I would be calling the police. She certainly has a right to report her, but not intimidate and harass. That is my point.

Yeah if HD came they would not see business activity going on in my house.....I've been baking the last 2 weeks for practice and gave all that stuff to my friend after I photographed it and thats the most baking that I do at one time-one cake and 2 dozen cupcakes. I did the craigslist thing bc I wanted to see if I could get a few orders to get my name known around town. I freaks me out that she claims that she has my SS# and bday but that just sounded strange to me for the HD. I live in ga and am not sure if is legal to home bake but I will be finding out by calling the HD...as I said this isnt worth all that trouble. I am just a stay at home mom trying to gain experience bc I love baking/cake decorating and would love to do this whenever I go back to work. It just sucked to get that email first thing (and I mean first thing 7:30 am) on Easter Sunday.....I've been in a funk all day!

Follow your passion! Four or so years ago one of the bakers here in AZ was contacting people like this. And this is a high profile baker here. It seems to me that if this so called civic minded person was so concerned they would have just contacted the HD and let it go at that. Sour grapes is all this is. And, no tellin what kind of crazies your gonna come across on Craigs list.

Hmm... 4 or so years ago was when we got "busted" (we were working in a permitted commercial space but without our own permit) I wonder if the person that you are talking about "turned us in."

To the OP: Unfortunately it doesn't matter who they are... if somebody has enough info about you and you are giving the appearance of breaking some law, they can cause you trouble. Call the HD and find out your options asap, that way if somebody does come to your door you can say "I just talked to Chuck at your office last week about getting licensed and I put out some feelers to see what demand was like. I haven't fulfilled a single order or broken any state or federal laws but while you are here and I have your undivided attention, I'd love to get some clarification on a few licensing questions". icon_biggrin.gif

Best of luck!

I read it too, but I don't remember any arguing between the two, just the op wondering whether she should turn her in to the HD. Maybe that was after I logged off. I was trying to remember what state she was from, but I don't think it was ga. She was concerned because they did similar work. Did you advertising that you do 3d cakes? When I had logged of she said she wasn't going to turn her in, bad karma icon_smile.gif Anyways, just be careful, that would really suck to get in trouble before you even really got started.

The thread didn't disappear it was deleted by a moderator.

Basically, a new member "watchyourback" who joined yesterday posted a few posts to the OP. It would seem like she either was the illegal baker in question or she knew the baker. She knew the OP's name and business name.

Before it got out of hand, it was deleted.

I just checked her profile and she is from Birmingham, MI, so no I don't think this thread is related to that one.

So obviously that thread had nothing to do w me. I am still freaked out that she has my address...I googled myself and looked myself up the white pages website and havent found my address. If this isnt real then where did she find my address? and its true the HD has no business w my SS#

Yeah, because people ALWAYS tell the truth on the internet. icon_confused.gif

This is just annoying. The name the OP used yesterday is the same name as the OP of this girl-Jessica. Sugaredup called her Jessica and today the email the OP posted was addressed to Jessia.

Wow, small world. So what happened? Were you fined? They must have been digging pretty deep to find you were not licensed, since you were in a licensed commercial kitchen. They must have felt threatened by your talent or something.

Fortunately, we weren't fined since we were working in an approved kitchen already. They gave us a break and just had us get the kitchen inspected in our name. I'm not sure that whoever turned us in knew we were in an approved kitchen, if they punched in our name on the Maricopa County site, it would have come back empty so they likely assumed we were working from home. I don't know what would have happened if we were working from home... and I am sure as heck glad we didn't have to find out! icon_smile.gif
