Gosh I hope not but here's the deal about GA from my experience. When we lived in Augusta and I took a few Wilton classes at Michael's there was a girl who subbed for the instructor who was baking illegally out of her home. Well there was one girl in there writing everything down and it turned out she worked for the health department and busted this girl. But I guess she didn't learn her lesson because my old neighbor there told me that they were at a party where she was handing out her cards for cakes. It had an unusual spelling in part of her name and since this woman was in the class with me she thought it rang a bell and asked if it was indeed this girl's business. I looked and her website is up with pictures again. I believe this girl was also advertising on Craigslist for awhile.
But if this is not a punking situation don't open your door and tell them you're calling the police. If they are legit they'll stick around if not you don't want to open your door on someone with bad intentions.

Okay, I'm one of those people that it says "Newbie" under my name but it says I signed up in 2007. My older sister joined me up then but I've never really had the time to get into it until recently. The good news is, I've been able to learn a lot and be entertained from this website, the bad news is my sales are down; so I've had the time to be on these forums. The economy has forced many of us to do things and say things that we probably wouldn't have done in the past. I have been in the food business for 30 years from running casual and upscale restaurant chains to opening up my own catering company 9 years ago. In my lifetime I have never experienced an economy this bad. There is not enough business to go around right now. It's survival of the fittest and damn, I'm out of shape and menopausal. I don't do cakes, but I do understand everything there is to know about operating legally and illegally. Tried it both ways and I prefer legally. I've been following this thread for quite awhile now, yea the other one too that disappeared like Jimmy Hoffa.

I have to take the time to thank you all for helping to bring out of my depression( had a couple of deaths in my family). Some of you really have made me laugh( I very much needed that). You know who you are; when we all started spewing coffee over the comment on the last licensing thread ie: "where are we at now in the game, 2 lawyers and someone trumped with a judge" Okay that was way too funny.

I do believe it is important to keep talking about this issue of licensing, so as to help others not to go through the pain I endured. I've made my mistakes along the way. There's all kinds of things you need to know about selling for a profit, not only the HD, how about US( that would be Uncle Sam) and state sales tax as well. Don't freak out, I'm not turning anyone in, as I said, I chose the wrong path years ago and I'm still paying for it. The penalties and interest are killing me. Yet I want to live in a free country too, so we gota pay. Don't go thru what I did. Do it right the first time. One reason why the legal bakers are so upset OP: As stated many times before, the illegal bakers can charge less for their product because they do not have the overhead and the tax burden that the legal bakers carry; thus causing the legals not to be able to compete in price wars. If you want to sell and make a profit, do it legally.

Wishing you great success( and this goes out to all from my heart)

First of I think your first mistake was to reply to her email or his email whatever that may be,
second mistake was to start this thread if you google sweetdealbakehouse 2 things pop up and the first one is your Cake Central profile and on it there is a part where you can click for all your posts and they go directly to this thread, change your username to something else, not your email either. I try to be real careful what I post your never know what people will look for and I am very careful when I post a question about people they can be reading these posts too.

I don't call people names either that stuff like people bashing I keep it in my bedroom between m hubby and I, my personal opinion of others don't mean anything anyways I just want to vent sometimes I go to my hubby to vent.

Stuff gets read all the time becareful what you post.

I would stop baking for a while wait for things to calm down and your username sounds like a business by the way.

Good Luck I have considered selling cakes also but I think of all that I can lose, I am still looking for a kitchen to rent icon_sad.gif

PS I also don't tell people about cake central cause if they see the pictures and recognize my work then they know is me too

I,too would be upset if I owned a bakery, and miss homebaker came and under cut me. And so would all of you. I am a home baker, as I said before, and I do not undercut. I do what I think is fair and in line with the bakery owners. But, I may not have "overhead" like rent for a kitchen, but I do have overhead. I have to buy specific pans for certain cakes, I still have to buy the same ingredients as the store bakers. I don't do as much volume, so really, I am making less per cake then they are. It may be different overhead, but it's the same to me. I also have to divide my work up, as I have a child to watch during the day, and a family to feed at night, regardless if I have orders or not. So, I understand what they are saying, but we all have overhead and sacrifices, they just vary depending on the person!

Notjustcakes...Great advise!I changed my name on here, too, because i don't want any weirdo's looking for my personal information!! It's not the same as my business name!

Ok, let's just say this - and I only read 2 or 3 of the posts on here about this. I was dumb for contacting that girl. If I wanted to report her, I should have done so. But no, I wanted to give her a chance to back down on her own, tell her she is doing it the wrong way, and give her a chance to make it right. Then I thought - this is business! I shouldn't care what her story is. Hence, the thread - I wanted to see what other CC'ers would do. I should have specified that I was only looking for those CC'ers who actually owned a business - but I didn't.

This whole thing has gotten me very upset. It went way too far. I'm still not over being threatened! I am shaking my head right now just thinking about this.

I did send Jessica a "let's call a truce email" on Easter morning. Of course, I got no response, which is to be expected, I guess.

Someone comes on here searching for advice and gets suspicion and accusations? Not very nice...

If you suspect a post is fake, then just ignore it. If you ignore it, you are hurting no one. However, if you voice your suspicions and accusations, you end up hurting and alienating new members.

I've read both threads (or parts of them) and while I thought the subject matter was similar, I could see obvious differences in circumstances. Last I checked, this was a cake site - not a sleuthing site. If you aspire to be Sherlock Holmes, you're in the wrong place.

Also, it's important to not post personal details about yourself in your profile, as it is searchable on Google. I changed my name - creating a new profile so that I could post freely...

I have to say that I LOVE this website. I found it by a complete accident and have become addicted. My husband, like many others calls it my "cake porn". I am on here when I should be working...at work. I am on here when I should be cleaning house; I am on her EVERY day!

That being said I read the post that you are all referring to on Friday, it ruined my day. It very nearly ruined my weekend. I have so much love for this website and that was flushed in one post. There was SO much hate and vengeance in that post that it blew me away. For the first time in a very long time I did not get on here all weekend.

This just can't be what this website is about. I have told so many people that love to bake that this is just the BEST website. That people are SO friendly and that they will give you great advice! I just hated to think that it was infected by such a bad posting. Then I get on here this AM and see that huge post that was a complete lie. Geeze-o.

I am back today and am going to stay off the forum for the foreseeable future, but I still love the website.

I guess that you just have to take the good with the bad...and people are still people.

IDK...

I guess this is why this disturbed me so much. I told my husband that this was the one place that you could go to on the internet that was not overloaded with BS. There was no doomsday reports like on the news. It was bliss for me. That nonsense just kinda ruined it for me. I get on here and look at some of this stuff and think..."I wanna try that!" I agree that most of you are great and I will probably not leave, it's too addictive!

Yes, they are. The generous, nice, helpful people are still here, too. It's sad to say, but the truth is this is no different than everyday life which is no different than the school playground. There are cliques and bullies and whatever else you want to call it everywhere. There are lurkers whose sole purpose is to make caustic remarks and feel empowered while they hide behind their keyboards. LOL Forums are like that no matter what the topic or the website. Having said that, I love CC. I have found a lot of encouragement and generosity on this site from complete strangers. I love perusing the gallery and am amazed at the talent. When I was a newbie I was apt to say whatever came to mind in the forums and I did get a few snarky, condescending replies. At that time it hurt my feelings and I felt like you are feeling, but common sense won over. Why should I care? Take what works and throw the rest away. Stay a while!

I love it here too, but as I stated before I was kinda depressed for awhile, and those controversial topics kind of woke me up a little, got my blood moving again. I do feel we can all respect each others opinions without killing one another. We can agree to disagree and leave it at that. So, just an opinion, " I like it when you put the controversial topics out there, it must come from my dysfunctional upbringing icon_lol.gif

Why is it that all of these threads that have the potential to get ugly are the ones that get the most views and comments...but when u start a thread to ask someone for advice on how to do this kinda cake or that kinda cake you will more than likely get 1-2 people that will answer...or you may have to wait days before someone responds and even then u will have to ask again icon_confused.gif I honestly think that people like the idea of getting involved in drama more than they like the idea of helping someone who actually comes to this site to learn tapedshut.gif Thats just MHO...I must admit that reading some of these threads is better than reading a book or magazine...and its a wonder the moderators don't screen these threads and stop them before they get the first response. I actually found this site because the Ace of Cakes website has a link to it and I wanted to find out how to make a cake like one of theirs.

OP -- you've never sold a cake, you've taken down the ad, you are making inquiries about becoming legal -- I wouldn't worry about being investigated by the HD anymore.

I enjoy a good yarn, so I don't get too worked up if something turns out to be a hoax. It only bugs me when I am following a thread that seems interesting but it runs to 70 pages (guess which one I mean!!), but most of the posts are just things like "me too", so it takes forever to go through them to find the juicy bits. BTW when a post is really long and the thread shows this: Goto page Previous 1,2,3...14,15,16...56,57,58 Last : is there some way to get to the pages that aren't listed without having to click through every page of the post? Say I am on page 40 and want to go back to page 20 -- right now I have to click through every page from 40 back to 20.

I wish that I had more to include in some of these discussions. I am so new that I need way more help than I can give. icon_lol.gif The only reason that I am replying to this is that I get an email.

I am not going to leave and I am sure that most people will not. I think that I am going to be like LaBellaFlor and not mess with the forum unless it is based on something that I have a question on or that I can actually give some input on.

This is a great community for the most part created by what seems to be some really great people. I think that the moderators have a time going through all the posts that are on here. I hope that they will nip some of the nasty ones in the bud so that it dies not get out of hand again.

Bottom line, I found this site and joined because there are some awesome people on here that do things with cake and things that are based on sugar that should not even be possible I hope to one day have a fraction of that talent. thumbs_up.gif

when you are on a page, look in your browser and see what the last number is in the page address. Usually each pages changes that number by 15. For example (and I did this just the other day), the address ended in 215. I wanted to jump ahead so I erased the 215 and entered 300 (making sure the number ends in something divisible by 15). I was a bit short so I changed the 300 to 345 (moved me up 3 pages 15 x 3 = 45).

For anyone who is upset or confused about why newer posters are getting "doubt" thrown their way when their first post here on CC pertains to a "hot topic", you should read this thread: http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=626387&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=930

In fact read all 70 pages of it, then you'll really understand. (I am being perfectly serious.) I chose that particular start page because I think you should read PattyT's comment at the bottom...oh heck I'll quote it here:
