what if she was calling to see at what stage the cake was at but when OP told her all it needed was final touches, the btb didn't have the courage to tell her the wedding or the check had been cancelled. Not saying that that would make it right, it would, however, make it not so premeditated...like she was trying to get cake for nothing. What if the OP hadn't been notified...loaded the cake...tra la la la la down to the venue he/she goes...only to hear, "oh, didn't she tell you? the wedding was cancelled." There may have been cake flyin' then(if it'd been me, I woulda found where that bi45h lived and cake her freakin' house!)

So ...no word from bride, left message on her phne, grooms phone and MOB phone......I talked to bank and they said that she had called that morn and issued stop payment on the check ( which yes I had deposited, but the bank can still "recall" the funds at clients request) they said she did actually specify, correct check number and amount.....which was for the $550 she owed.
Okay so i just got off the phone with venue ( a place i work with quite a bit so i know them well)....they said bride and wedding party has been there most of the day but were gone to have hair done, i explained the situation to them and faxed a copy of the stop payment from the bank.
Venue rep said she would personally take the notice an put it in the brides hands and the salon ( BTW venue and salon are 35 minute drive from me...so that is why venue rep is taking notice)
she said id bride wanted the cake she would take her money and give it to me when i bring cake...if bride does not have money to pay..she will call me back and make sure everyone at the reception know why there is not a cake...
And yes I am legally covered with my contratc because I have it clearly stated that NO refund on deposits are given without proper notice of cancellation in writing and signed by both parties.
So now I am waiting to hear from venue rep...just gonna focus my work on cake #2 ( which is for a very dear friend) and get some lunch.
Personally I wouldn't do anything like going to her reception for any of the reasons stated earlier as to me that would be sinking to her level and pretty non-professional.
Delivering the cake as far as the parking lot wouldn't necessarily be a petty or unprofessional gesture - although it could in a way feel like one and give the OP a tiny bit of satisfaction. As someone else said, it's a matter of follow-through. Whether to just be certain there's not some misunderstanding on the one hand or to bolster a legal claim on the other, this is what I would do.
There was a deadly tornado last night a few counties over from OP so it may be while before we hear from her. I hope everything goes well for her. Hopefully she wasn't affected by the storm!!
Hopefully, for the sake of the bride and family, that is not why she canceled. That would be really sad.
I don't think I'd have the presence of mind to run over to the bank first thing after a tornado to stop payment on a check! I highly doubt that a storm had anything to do with this.

i understand that ppl want to give the bride the benefit of the doubt since we only know one side of the story but it sounds awfully fishy that she called to op confirming all the necessary details (the wedding still being on the night before) then called the bank to stop the payment. and if there had been a storm/tornado that night that messed up the wedding why stop the payment, why not call the op and talk about a delay for reason of the storm. i'm sure she'd be understanding of those circumstances and hold the cake (upon full payment) and now i am letting my brides know that i will require the final payment of cakes in full in cash no later than 2 weeks before the wedding date! so thank you op for a lesson learned-and i'm sorry that you have to go through this and i hope you weren't effected by the storm and everything is okay

I just ran into this thread, so forgive me if all is said and done already.
That close to the event day, I would have just cashed the check outright, instead of depositing it. That way, if there's an NSF or a stop, all the fees fall on the writer of the check, and it would not have any impact my account at all.

that's not exactly true. if you cash the check and it is later returned, the bank will deduct that amount from your account. It isn't going to pursue payment for the bad check.
If I take a check to the bank...any bank...even the same bank as mine...all they require is my dl# so how would they deduct that amount from my account? If, when I cashed it, the check was good?

That sure is going to suck when there's a big ol' space on the cake table where the cake should be.
She thought she was a genius when she emailed "pretending" everything was on the up and up, only to be kicked in the teeth by her own deception.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would love to be at the Salon when they give her the note in front of everyone. That will surely teach her a lesson.

That is just in. sane. As many times as people have been scammed by customers like this, it still never ceases to amaze me when this happens.
I too would give just about anything to be in that salon when she is confronted with her deceptions infront of her bridal party!
There have been so many posts from others here relaying their "got screwed over" experiences, it is nice to see the tables turned, and a bad customer caught in the act!

If it was someone that didn't get along with the bride, the bride probably wouldn't have shared the info about the check/exact amount of cake. That would be quite interesting though. But it'd make for a horrible day for both bride and OP. =(

I dunno, but I've known one or two of those crazies in my lifetime and the things they can pull off are amazing! 
When you call a bank on your account you have to verify several pieces of personal information before they will even talk to you. So unless someone knows everything (an I mean everything) there is to know about her I find that highly unlikely.
Yep, I agree. I think everyone just wants to believe there is a reason for this other than that the bride is pulling a scam. We want to believe that someone wouldn't be that calculating and deceiving. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who are just not nice!
I also commend the OP because something like this would have me so fired up I don't think I could work right. I really respect that.
I just don't understand how someone could do something so obviously deceitful and still look themselves in the mirror. What if the OP didn't have someone looking out for her? This chick would've gotten a free cake (for the time being). I'm a firm believer that all bad deeds don't go unpunished, so she would've been repayed for this somewhere down the road of life. But, it's great that the OP found out so she could take action.

There is a difference in cashing the check and walking out of the bank with the money and depositing it. Although if you cash it at your own bank they can and will hit your account.
Oh, I have tons of Easter cookies to be working on but I have been sitting here reading this thread! I can not believe this bride to be!!!
