Hello! I am planning to make 100 monogrammed cupcakes in a few weeks.
Here are my questions:
1.I want the monograms to look like the following picture. I assumed that the monogram was made with fondant.... what do you think? What about the letter on the top? Do you just use a circle cutter for the round base?
2. I am using cream cheese frosting. I've never worked with this kind of frosting before and I am wondering if it works for the swirls on cupcakes? Can you color/dye it?
Any other tips/advice would be much appreciated as this is my first cupcake order!
Thanks!!
In looking at the picture the round disc and the letter are both fondant. Depending on how big you want the circle, you can use anything from a small cookie cutter to a large icing tip. I usually use a large icing tip.. works great every time!!! The letter is also cut out of fondant. Looks like the Wilton letterinig cut outs to me.
Cream cheese icing is no different in coloring, etc.... treat it just the same as you would your regular icing. Might take color a little differently but you'll just have to watch that. Other than that it is great to work with.
Wondering if you couldn't use Necco Wafers for the round disk - would save time/$ instead of making fondant just for the disk part. The letter looks like piped frosting to me.....
Funny you asked this question, I just made a whole bunch of these about an hour ago!
In your picture, the circle looks like it's fondant and I'm sure the B is done in fondant with the Wilton letter cutters - the Wilton B always looks a little weird to me!
Here is a bad photo of the ones I have drying. They are MMF and the letter O and #2 are cut with Wilton cutters & dusted with Wilton's pink luster dust. They look much better in person....
Thanks everyone for your help!
(I loved the picture that you attached KorensMommy... they look great!)
How do you dust them with luster dust? Is that something you do to the fondant before rolling it out, or after the shape is cut?
Is it okay to do the monograms quite a few days (even a week or so) in advance, or is it best to do it right before you use them?
Thanks for the tips!
Here is what I do, maybe someone else can tell you the correct way!!!
I make all my pieces at least 1 week in advance. I'm in southern Louisiana where it's always 90% humidity and things take *forever* to dry.
I dry dust my luster dust onto my pieces. I cut everything out and dust the luster dust right onto the pieces while they are still tacky.
If they have already dried, you can use a few drops of vodka mixed with your luster dust to make 'paint' and paint your dry pieces.
Good luck!
