Sorry if this is the wrong area to post this, I wasn't sure!

Anyway, I just bought a gently used (only two years old) True reach in fridge. Its in beautifuly condition and still has warranties on the compressor and such, so I couldn't turn it down.

It has a slight garlic smell to it..Even the outside! (I bet it was in a pizza place or something) I put baking soda in it, but I was wondering what everyone suggests washing it down with to get rid of the smell? Should I just use regular dish washing liquod or something stronger? I don't want to add to the smell with detergents!

I googled and several sites recommend putting a half a lemon in the fridge to absorb the odor.

I'm sure if you googled it something would come up, but I would try baking soda, wipe everything down with baking soda. Wipe everything down with lemon, and then try putting in a dish...on the lowest shelf of activated charcoal...you know from the fish dept at the pet store.

Thanks guys! I had put baking soda in there last night and it already is a lot better! I love the lemon idea, I dont think it will clash as much as coffee since I will be putting cakes in there...

I would definitely recommend the baking soda and lemon.

I've been trying to do more organic/chem. free cleaning in my house. I use lemon essential oils quite a bit.

the best thing to use is activated carbon, like is in fish tank filters. You can buy it in a tub loose at walmart inthe fish section and either put it in a mesh bag or just in a shallow dish. It will absorb odor better than baking soda. They actually covered this topic on food detectives several weeks back. Hope this helps
