Ok can anyone help me??? I am very new to cake decorating..I am self taught...So please be gentle!! My cousin wants me to make her a purse cake for a purse party she is having friday. I have researched pic online and I believe with help I could make a simple one. You know maybe one that is laying on a board not standing up or whatever. But I was wondering if someone more experienced could give me a step by step on how I could do this. I have never worked with fondant before so if anyone had suggestions on other ways to get great effects on a purse cake that would be appreciated 2! I am eventually going to get the nerve to work with fondant but I am scared!!!! I did see the how to purse cake on cc but wasnt sure i could do the fondant!! Please help me!!!
Hi.
Go to wwwsweetandsaucy.com then go to her blog. She has a very detailed tutorial. I'm trying to get to it myself and can't find it for ya but I'll keep trying. HTH K'ly
I also think if you go to www.youtube.com and put in the search engine how to make a fondant purse something comes up too. Happy hunting.
Finally...after not being able to log on all afternoon, here's the tutorial I was talking about. HTH K'ly

well I did it...I finished my purse cake. Go look at my pics and let me know what you think. It was definitely trial and error. It started out as a coach purse and ended up a chanel because I couldnt get the coach c to work!! It was my first time with fondant and I am not sure if I really made it right!!
Your purse looks terrific~! You did a wonderful job, and the fondant looks very nice... congratulations....
You did a great job on that cake! The hardest part of making my first handbag cake was the zipper. I read the purse tutorial mentioned in this thread and saw the silicon zipper mold, but it sells for 13.99.I went to the fabric store and bought a heavy duty zipper for less than 2.00. I pressed it into rolled out fondan, cut it out and painted the zipper with the gold luster dust/extract mixture and it came out looking just like a real zipper!
Great job tiffevans for a first timer, keep it up .
Gramofgwen, I like your idea but wouldn't the zipper face inwards and not the right side out?
your purse cake is beautiful, well done,i'm planning on making one soon i hope i can make it nice like your's.
