how do i make burgundy fondant

Hello everyone:
Im making a cake for my parents Weddinga anniversary and my parents favor color is burgundy, plus they love fondant so I want to know how i can make burgundy fondant if someone knows please let me know thru here or email me at yortiz@rcn.com

I'm pretty sure Wilton has a burgundy color thats pretty easy to find at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. just mix that into the fondant until you get the desired color. Good luck. Hope to see some pics.

thats an extremely hard colour to achieve and the more colour you add to the fondant the softer it gets. if you can start with pre coloured fondant that will help, but even then still dont expect a rich deep burgandy.

Yes, I wish I could give you some advice but I agree -- burgandy is almost impossible!! I used the Wilton 'burgandy' color and still only came up with purple. I started adding other things to it (red, black) in the hopes it would darken up, but no luck. I ended up changing my gameplan and not doing burgandy at all! icon_sad.gif

I think I'll start with chocolate (brown) fondant and then add red to it. Will keep you posted on how it works. Burgandy is a mix of brown and red rather than red and black.

how about using Americolor Burgundy Gel Paste Food Colouring its great here is a link on ebay to show you the colour i hope this helps just copy and paste in search its from ebay :

I've made it before starting off with brown fondant. Then I added some red and a touch of orange...not alot, just a touch. Gave me the perfect color I was looking for.

imo, the americolor burgundy is just awful...really muddy and not vibrant.
i think i would go the path you are thinking with brown and red. i did that with some cookie icing a while back and it turned into a nice burg.

there are quite a few forums on burg on here and you might find some other solutions if you do a search (or if the website will actually do the search...website has had problems for the last month).

I made burgundy with 3 colors of Satin Ice, if you want to go that route. It was 4 parts red, 1 part blue, and 10 parts pink (yep, really. The hot pink, not the pastel.) If you want a visual, it was for the bands around each tier for this cake. If it doesn't work, it's the 2-tiered white, gold, and burgundy pawprint cake in my pics. I tried to post the second pic of it because the color is better.

Simple...start with red fondant, add just a touch of green until you get the shade of burgundy you want.

i have used the americolor gel paste in burgundy and it worked very well
