Ok I need to make a rainbow to go from one cake to another, I see many on the site. I assume it's done with gumpaste of royal, but I wonder which is easier and sturdier? Also is there a pattern? How did you all do them is what I need to know. Thanks for any and all help with this . icon_biggrin.gif

Me personally, I would bake a big rainbow shaped cookie, decorate it and use this.
Royal is very hard but can break, gumpaste could break to but would be probably easier. Roll the gumpaste thicker then usual, let it dry very hard. This means start as soon as you can on this part.

Hi, I haven't done a rainbow myself. But if Iwere to do it, I would use pastillage. Roll it out, cut a big rainbow shape. Then let it dry. Once its dry, I would use rainbow coloured gumpaste and stick stripes on them on the pastillage.

I would use gumpaste, or fondant with tylose. Let it harden for several days, the attach it to a lollipop stick with melted white chocolate.

That's exactly how I did the rainbow on my CareBears cake - except I used fondant+tylose rather than pastillage.

Just cut a half-circle (or whatever your rainbow shape is) from the same color as the top stripe of your rainbow. So, if the top of your rainbow is pink, like in my pic, you'd use pink gumpaste for your half circle. Let that dry for a few hours.

Cut strips of fondant and glue them to your half circle. When you're finished, cut the excess from under the last (bottom) strip. Repeat on the other side.

Let the whole thing dry for a couple of days.

I just did one last week (in my photos) although it sounds like you want it to be bigger then mine.

I used 50/50 MMF/Gumpaste colored red, yellow, blue and green. I made a rope out of the red first (outside color) took my 6" pan and used it as a mold. I placed the red rope inside the pan to shape the arch and then did the same with each of the remaining colors. Use a little "glue" or water to attach each new color to the others. I then gently lifted them out of the pan and slightly rolled them with a fondant roller to flatten the surface. It dried in approx 24 hours.

You could do the same with a larger round pan to get a larger rainbow.

Hopefully I didn't just confuse you with these instructions, it really was more simple then I just made it seem.

Thank you, but no, I did not make the Care Bears. They're toys. Since I sell my cakes, I cannot legally recreate licensed characters. Good luck with your cake!
