I think that is what happens too! So many people loading and pictures just whip by... like most I did not see most of the cakes on here but they are all BEAUTIFUL! Great job guys!

Cheers,
Ally

AAAA.... I guess I will add one too! LOL...
This was my first wedding cake and I was happy how it turned out... not what I would want but she was over the moon!

This is nuts! I am looking through these cakes and each and everyone of them is just amazing.
Something I have noticed, maybe you have too, is that the bar has been significantly raised. Some times I come across a cake from when this site was first started that has hundreds of saves, but that same cake today wouldn't get too much attention. I think that everyone has become so used to amazing cakes that it gets harder and harder to impress.

I totally agree with you thumbs_up.gif
Just in the two years or so I've been here there has been an incredible change in the amount of talent here. I mean, some of the cakes I see now are just jaw droppingly beautiful icon_biggrin.gif

Okay, well that doesn't read the way it sounds in my head... Maybe I should just say that I think the reason there is so much talent on here is because of the site itself... One person posts a gorgeous cake, someone see's the cake and makes it again, but better. Then the next person does the same thing, and so it goes. It really has raised the standard of what an amazing cake is on here.

Here is my favorite cake that I have ever done! I got some great assistance from Sugar_Plum_Fairy. Without her the meat in the cheeseburger would not have been that good. princess.gif

You really identified it perfectly~! The bar has been raised so high now, and it truly is a testiment to the perfection that has become the norm... icon_smile.gif

You all have got me hook looking at all the great pics I'm getting nothing done today! I must say I dont get upset when I dont have many comments or faves because I get so much inspiration from all of you I feel like giving you all the credit.

Here is my one cake that went unnoticed. I poured my heart into this one becasue it was for a girl that couldn't get pregnant and by the grace of God she did so it was a very big shower. I wanted it to be prefect for her. Althought its not perfect I'm proud of it.

I loaded this a couple weeks ago but I think it was during peak uploading times....I thought he turned out fairly cute.

WoW! icon_eek.gif

I have played around with uploading times (am vs pm) and days (Sat, Mon, Wed) and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference... I'm not sure how they make the front page, but most of the time I never see my cakes hit the front page.

Just a thought....Maybe the web site should have a much larger section for "new cakes added today" that way they will be on the home page longer giving people a chance to see them. 5 pics is just not enough with the amount of pics being added everyday. On the other hand there might just be so many pics added that it wouldn't make a difference. What do you think. Or maybe a separate link to new cakes added today where it will show all cakes added for that day. Just thinking here....

In the galleries, there is a tab for "last uploads" where you can view the cakes from most recently uploaded...

All expertly done~! I don't think there are nearly as many viewers leaving comments as there used to be.. Your work is beautiful.. you should feel proud... thumbs_up.gif

Thank you, Laura. I whole-heartedly agree with you. We get more perusers than commentors!

BTW, how's Christie? Have you kept in touch with her? I tried e-mailing her to no avail. Hope she's well.

I agree! I believe the exposure to the general public with shows like Ace of Cakes and The Food Network Challenge add to this scenerio.

Wow! He has so much detail!

I think another part of the issue when people don't leave comments is because so many photos get posted without descriptions. I like to comment on what I've read about it, if someone says they aren't happy with it, they worked hard on it, it was a new technique, how they made it (RKT's etc), ...

It's just easier to comment when you have somehwat of a conversation going.

Another issue with lots of views and few comments (which I can understand a bit, but still gets my goat) is that if somebody is doing a search for a certain cake or to get ideas, etc. sometimes they're short on time and just look at a whole bunch of cakes and don't comment on any. I try to avoid this and really try to leave even a short, quick comment even when I'm doing a search and pressed for time - it's not easy sometimes (esp, when the site's 'acting up').

I noticed too that the most original cakes, be it in its colour scheme, design, technique or it's structure are usually the ones that get the most attention and saves. Of course execution is still important too.

And that makes sense because those are usually the most inspiring cakes. Or we may already have a cake similar already in faves and would not feel compelled to save another cake that is just a bit different.

But threads like this one are great because it allows people to post the ones they like and feel didn't get the attention and it works so well. I've already gotten over 200 more views on the link I posted earlier in this thread and lots more comments that are constructive and that helps so much and means a lot.

Thanks to everyone at CC icon_smile.gif

Thank you all that posted such sweet comments on my cakes. I too, can see the how the bar has been raised here at CC. I do feel like my skill level has increased with pacitice but it is the inspiration and learned skills that I has gotten here at CC. This site has been the one thing that has moved me along with my love of creating cakes. I love to see the look on my customers face when they see their cake and loves it. But I could not do it with out the help of all you guys here. Thanks for be willing to share you talent and knowledge with all. Debbie

Here is my dragon cake. I did it for my daughter's 3rd birthday. icon_biggrin.gif She just loved it. It was a first for me in many areas, first RKTs, first carved cake, and it was the most details I've ever done on a cake. I don't even know how many scales I cut out.

I did this one a few weeks ago for a friend. It was for her in-law's 50th birthdays. My hubby said this is my best cake to date. I've only gotten a few comments on it. Despite the issues I had with the cake, I was pleased with how it turned out. I had so many great cakes from here to use for ideas!

My cakes are definitely not show pieces, but I loved this one-even if no one else did! My favorite part was the barn with the horses sticking their heads out. I worked really hard getting the individual planks on the barn, building the door, and shingling the roof. The picture doesn't really show the barn that well, but I had fun creating it.
