Satin Ice Pink Vanilla fondant and Satin Ice Dark Chocolate, I'm after pictures of cakes using these.

How did you find using them? Did you need to alter the pink with any colouring??

Interested in buying but don't want to purchase before getting some feedback.

Thank you icon_smile.gif

Here's one I did with the chocolate. It was just as easy to use as the white fondant, and I think it has a pretty good chocolate flavor. I did brush a little Crisco on this one to give it the sheen.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, beautiful cake!! If I can achieve something even half as good I'll be satisfied, I'm new to the whole cake making process.

Unfortunately I 'm quite limited in cake supplies locally (NZ) so have to resort to online so I have no idea of how the products would look etc. I'll give this one a try.

Oh how I love that cake. I honestly am not a fan of any type of sheen/shinyness but I'm loving the sheen of your cake.

How different is the dark chocolate Satince Ice compared to the regular chocolate SI?

Lol if we don't have Crisco in Nz, what can I use?? I've heard vegetable shortening around the place but not sure what this is?? I heard its lard or canola oil??

I can get canola oil...

I used Satin Ice dark chocolate for the spots on my cow cake (in my avatar and in my gallery). I found the dark chocolate to be way too dark, almost black, so I mix half chocolate with half white Satin ice to get a nice brown color. I think it tastes better this way too, just the right amount of chocolate flavor.

KathysCC, look! I'm getting credit for your cake design again. Everyone, I shamelessly copied Kathy's design, so the praise is hers!!

NZ Girl, butter or a little canola oil on a paper towel would probably work, too. Use sparingly!!

The dark chocolate is very dark, almost black. A lot of people think the cake I posted is black. I think it tastes like a Tootsie Roll. Don't know if you have those in NZ, either.

NZ girl, I haven't used either of these, just black satin ice. But I just wanted to say hey. I am actually moving to New Zealand in a few years. I didn't know you had a hard time getting cake supplies, especially vegetable shortening. But I do understand, since your country is more "health conscience" than the USA in general. My father in law lives there, and he's never told me any of this very useful information, so thank you for the heads up!!!

I think supplies in NZ depend on where you are, I'm in Whangarei so supplies arent really there for me... I'd assume Auckland would have alot available...

And nope no tootsie things here... Nor those twinkie things I see/hear all over the place, my gawd they look yummy!!

Thanks for all suggestions and feedback its helping alot.

Oh, okay. Well, we would be moving to Christ Church on the south island. I know my father in law says there are a bunch of bakeries there. I'm sure you could try to buy ingredients from a bakery near you. Or find out who their wholesaler is! good luck!

Yes, look at this picture of Ruth's cake. The chocolate fondant looks great! thumbs_up.gif

Ruth, you win. icon_biggrin.gif Your cake has 30 more favorites that my original photo. I think the fondant looks better than my chocolate buttercream.

The "gift" cake in my photos was made using the pink pre-coloured Satin Ice. I didn't alter it in any way. It was a bit brighter than I thought it might be when I ordered it (I had expected it to be more of a "baby" pink), but for the purpose that I needed it, it was fine.

I have used their purple too - the petal cake in my photos - but that I mixed with some white (maybe 70% purple and 30% white) to tone it down a bit.

The colours are a bit bold, but I figure those dark colours are the ones people might struggle with, so they pre-colour pretty deep - let people "water" them down as they wish??
