I just made the recipe that jimandmollie posted using the cake mix and they turned out great. I just filled them with some left over ice n fill that I had. I was going to take some to work with me tomorrow but I don't think they are going to make it through they night between my husband and teenagers they are disappearing fast.

Hello again~
I just got a wedding order for 75 whoopie pies instead of a wedding cake. To be served along with the Groom's cake I'm making.
How should I price these for a wedding? I'd like to charge $2.00 or more a piece (mostly organic, etc).
Also, has anyone seen this effect on a whoopie pie? I was asked to do a "piped" effect (looks braided), but I'm not sure if it's piped or a buttercream dough? scroll down, the smaller photo looks piped, but how? This effect should cost more...

Thanks
Hey K2cakes.. Thats an awesome look I would also love to know how its done ! Kind of dresses them up a bit !!! They look neat laying in the liner to! Thanks for posting that link, gave me some other ideas to!
You should for sure charge more then $2.00 a piece.. what size will they be ?
The width of a tennis ball, they said. I'd like to charge $3.00 each.
But that ends up being $225 for 75 whoopie pies. Is that unreasonable considering my ingredients and being homemade, organic?
I really need to know about that piping... that's going to give me a migraine I know it... I'm scared when I transport them they will bump. Whoopie pies aren't supposed to be "pretty"...
I would NOT go under $3 each, and if they were any bigger I would go $4
sorry I cant help with the design but I hope someone has an answer for you soon.
I wouldnt worry about the end $ total ..You need to charge what you need to! Just make sure they know ahead of time.
I wonder if somewhere on youtube they show that design maybe ?
WPs the size of a tennis ball, not organic, is selling for 75 cents to $1 here. There's a stand in Quakertown that sells 4" wide ones for $1. I do not know if they're scratch or mix.

Wow! Thats crazy..I think you get more in a Whoopie then you do in a basic cupcake! And I wouldnt sell those for that price even with just a swirl!
I agree... I was selling large ones wholesale at $1.00 and making maybe .03 per whoopie pie. It wasn't worth it...
Whoopie pies are flour hogs~ I use higher amounts of ingredient just to do whoopie pies. Between oil, pure vanilla, organic soymilk, soy butter/shortening... it adds up very fast. (my soy butter is almost $4.00/lb
and my recipe of 12 large calls for 1 cup.
I really need a matrix!
I'm still here, Fiddle!
I was just researching these through the blogs when the notice on your post came up.
You know, you really have to search through all possible phrases with your keyword in order to find all the information out there. The first time, I used the phrase whoopie pie recipes. I got a lot of information, most of it the same from thread to thread.
Today, I just used the phrase whoopie pies, and found about a half dozen articles I had never seen before. I don't know if the newspaper articles have sparked new experimentation in WPs, but there are some new blog entries on the subject. I guess I'm in for some more heavy reading.
See you later!

I made some whoopie pies for a farmer's market I am doing for the summer and they sold out! I have to admit that I cheated and used the cake mix method but it was a less expensive test. I am excited about this thread!
Theresa.. Was that you that ws going to make these for a shower ?? If so how did it go ?
Yeah, but it was frowned upon when I suggested it. Who knew I would be surrounded by cake snobs?
Theresa
So far I've made pumpkin and banana nut whoopies for the farmer's market and they've been selling out.
Here is a pic of some pumpkins...

The control buttons are not coming up for me.
I mentioned in another thread that I made a gift box cake. But not an ordinary gift box cake. They don't like fondant, so I had to BC the whole thing.
I took 3-10"x3" squares, stacked them on each other, frosted them with vanilla bean SMBC, then decorated it with a semi-sweet chocolate clay rope and rope bow (kinda like those fat yarns they sold years ago, to use in place of ribbon), then dotted it with pink and brown candy melts.
Having never transported an already stacked cake before, I failed to center dowel it, and by the time I got it to the venue, it had started to lean. I didn't want it to end up in CakeWrecks, so I opted to not post it.

The lemon ones sound really good!! I also like the looks of the inside-out ones (i.e. white cake with chocolate filling).
did you see the Better Homes and Garden special magazine 2009? it has cookies on the cover but inside has a lot of yummi whoopie recipes!!!
I was in williams-sonoma yesterday and they had a few different flavors of box mix for whoopie pies for sale!
Do you think they'd be okay for shipping? Or better to wait for the fall?
