Is Bavarian cream the filling that is in boston cream? Just wondering, I have a client that asked for Boston cream, and found a sleeve of Bavarian cream at my local cake supplier. I was wondering if I could use that to fill if it was the same.

While Bavarian and Boston Cream are sometimes usesd interchangeably, they are actually not exactly the same.

Boston Cream Pie is actually filled with a standard pastry cream. Here is a link to a recipe for Boston Cream Pie, including the pastry cream filling: http://www.joyofbaking.com/BostonCreamPie.html.

Bavarian Cream is actually lighter and fluffier than the pastry cream used in Boston Cream Pie. Bavarian Cream is basically Creme Anglaise (custard sauce) with gelatin and whipped cream added to it.

To make an easy faux Bavarian Cream, mix 1 4 small package instant vanilla or French vanilla flavor pudding mix with 1 cup whole milk until smooth, then fold in 1 standard size container Cool Whip.

I know with donuts, boston cream is white and kind of plain. Banana cream is yellow, and more pudding-like.
