boy I gotta see this episode!

Is it just me or does it seem like every time there is a challenge the competitors have to defend themselves afterward? kind of makes me lose respect for the food network and the bad editing making people look like they sabbotaged another cake or they are a jerk. It's not fair when their businesses are on the line.

I knew you would win. Your cake was beautiful. I hope someday I can make flowers like you. I was happy to see you stand up for yourself and you were able to back it up with the SEVERAL techniques you had on the cake. The judges just like to add drama for the show an they shouldn't do that because it takes away from the competition.

Congratulations again on your win - well deserved.

lol, maybe I'm confused... I assumed that if the decorator and bride were in different locations they had to find another decorator for the cake... Please keep in mind I was SUPER tired last night when I watched it, but I couldn't go to sleep without knowing who won!

What Keegan kept saying was that the bride would have the cake 'replicated' for her actual wedding, but I am unclear on who did the replication. Was it you Buddy, or was it a local decorator in their area that recreated your amazing cake?

I agree that Buddy is a shot of humor that the sometimes stuffy cake world needs! (I can't do it all alone! Hehe!) But let's also remember that the judges are edited too... they aren't all just full of vinegar. (I will go to my deathbed swearing that Kerry is a nice woman!!) They say nice things too! But their job is to be critical, and I know I hate having my work torn apart, so I tip my hat to those who compete. It is not easy to do your best under poor circumstances and limited time, then have it raked over the coals. It's also hard for the judges, because they know they are looking at some serious talent, and they can often see what 'could have been' with just a little more time or if that little accident hadn't happened, etc. thumbs_up.gif

where do i begin first off being able to handle your bride is very hard but i meet with lots of them so i know what to do. the first thing the bride told me was i am having a garden themed wedding and i thought doing sugar flowers was a great fit so i was happy. the only thing that could of been a slight problem was the pink . i had a vision of what i wanted and she did not like baby pink and that was not my plan so i told my bride like i tell all my brides you gotta trust me and she did. i got really pised at the judges we actually argued for a couple of mineuts that no body saw. they said to me you had a great assistant and you got lucky. the truth is my bride was like any other bride that was there they all had no experiance in a kitchen. i sat my bride down and had her ball tool my flowers and i put everyone of those flowers together myself. and for those of you who make them that is no small task.i worked like a dog getting hundreds of sugar flowers together in 8 hours. inbetween ifilled stacked and painted on the cake . they did not even show me putting the flowers together or the 8 varities of flowers i made. my bride helped me paint the flowers i say the truth but the way it was edited looked like she did all the work and i was a cocky lucky guy. then we have kerry saying i would have airbrushed the flowers my god she is a genuise i never thought of that please kerry you cant compare that look of an airbrushed flower to one that has layers of petal dust and if would have airbrushed them they would of said a monkey could use an airbrush there is no skill involved so how do i win. i also get alot of interns at my bakery and i treated my bride like an intern and she helped me set up an assembly line of sugar flowers but being able to people to work and be productive is not as easy as it looks that takes skills trust me . and my ansewr to the judges was after patrick told me i did not use enough different skills i could not take it anymore i flipped iam like are you kidding me they had nothing to say i had a great cake and my bride had a garden themed wedding hello just say good job today buddy but no he had to go there so i told him that i guess he never made sugar flowers cause if he did he would not have made that stupid comment and that there was not a person in the room including kerry who could of made that many sugar flowers at that quality level in that amount of time and that was the truth. the crowd stood and clapped cause they saw it happen.

As far as ann and the rest of the compettitors we are all friends and i did feel bad for her with her bride . also when it is your first challange you do not know what to expect she will do fine in her new challanges . the judges were hard on her but they do not have a successful bussiness and she does and that is a better achievment then any challange.

lastly i am also pissed because this was the last challange i could of done and i just wanted to be shown as a great cake artist not a jerk. i am currently under contract with TLC i have my own show which will be called CAKEBOSS which will air april19 9 pm on tlc . My show will show my real life and really who i am and what i can do so i am excited about that. please check it out

so help me spread this tread so people se my disappiontment in a win.
THANK YOU

BUDDY VALASTRO

ps will be on good morning america on march 25 09 between 8 and 9 so chick it out

Buddy, didn't see you so much as a jerk, but just an up front individual who asserted himself in a trying situation. Serious, having an assistant with no kitchen/cake experience? I still don't understand why you didn't go red, but in the end she loved her cake as did many viewers. I love pink and think red is harsh, but I am not the bride. I am glad you spoke up to the judges. You really surprised me. It is almost like they are taking judging lesson from Simon Cowel and nobody is the ditzy loves you all person. I liked the old school challenges, now they are just comming up with something of a twist. Getting talented decorators to give us their best in 8 hours is enough of a twist. I look forward to seeing you on TLC, please do a reminder post so we won't forget! You will be missed doing the challenges, but having your own show will be far better. Best wishes!

You are so right! Watching this show could really affect some people's business! If only they would show clips of their real work or something. Anne's cakes are wonderful, but you wouldn't know it from watching this. They twist reality to make Buddy look like a jerk, or make Courtney look conniving (a few challenges back with the fake sabotage). This is their life, their reputation that the FN is messing with.

Buddy, I can't wait to see your show!!! You'll have to come on here and remind us, when it's closer - my DVR doesn't go out that far! icon_smile.gif Congrats on your win...all those awesome cakes..finally!!!

Buddy-For some reason when I was watching the show last night, I thought you were less cocky than usual. I don't know if it was because of the last thread you posted in where you defended yourself or what. I think that a big part of what a lot of people were reacting to is mainly the part of the country you are from. But last night I thought you came off as standing up for yourself and your amazing cake.

Apparently Food Network is editing from drama, after what happened to Courtney last time. icon_sad.gif

Your cake was absolutely gorgeous and beautiful, and I am so glad you won a challenge!

I am happy for Buddy though. It's about time that he one a challenge!!!

I totally agree with you! Anne's bride was THE WORST!!!! I just wanted to reach through the TV and smack her!!!! I was like......does she NOT know who Anne Heap is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt so sorry for Anne at the end.........she is so talented, and to have had that experience.........I hope (and read that she did) have much better luck on her next FN Challenge!!! She seems like a real sweetheart!!!!

But congratulations, Buddy!!!!! Well deserved win, and I LOVED your cake!! Can't wait to see your new show!!!!!!

My DH watched it with me and he kept commenting how any bride should be honored to have any cake made by any one of the designers.

Am I the only one who thought Elizabeth's cakes looked great? I thought the crokenbush (or however you spell it!) looked delish! I love profiteroles!

Mmmmm... profiteroles....

I do think that Buddy's cake was technically the best. I admire anyone who has enough will to live to make that many gp flowers. Blech! icon_lol.gif

Hey Buddy,

First of congratulations on you win, a stunning cake with flowers I can only dream of being able to make and your new show. Thrilled that we'll be seeing you on a regular basis.

I agree with summernoelle, I don't think you came of as cocky. You have a strong personality but that is part of your charm. I admit on other episodes, I found it tough to take, but I've really come to respect your artistry and enthusiasm.

I've become so disappointed in these challenges. running thru disney world, surprises like last night.

It's about the cakes stupid!

I've already marked your new show on my calender.

best of luck and stop by cake central every once in a while, icon_lol.gif

Elizabeth's really was unique and well done. I just think America is used to croquembouche for weddings. Most Americans probably have never seen one. But those little suckers are delish!! Of course, I like mine with a little ganache on 'em because there isn't much you can't make better with chocolate. icon_redface.gificon_lol.gif

You can certainly post your recipe here, it is 'on topic' of what we're discussing, and no one is going to get mad about a new recipe! I just use a traditional pat a choux to make mine, is yours different? Oh man, I DO NOT have time to make those this week... between orders and a MIL that is coming to visit, but now I'm geeking for some! icon_rolleyes.gif
