The show was great tonight! Even though I feel sorry for the one that followed the brides exact instructions and then found herself making a cake she wasn't proud of at all! The winning cake was adorable.

I hate this new format that they have for the challenges. Pick you family by running and playing hide n seek. have the bride work with you? Whatever! pink box cake would have been great had she been able to complete the cake. It was the only one that the bride asked for. I love the design concept is just lacked time for full excution. Having people "help" in the kitchen who do not know what is going on and even fasting to lose weight, they are not any help. Buddy's bride was a big help and that was a major factor for completing his cake. They all were good cakes.

I agree that the cake was all about what the bride wanted! At one point (when they offered the 1K) she even says that it's all her idea and if she walks away it's not because the decorator wasn't doing a good job, but because SHE didn't have a good design, or something to that effect. At least she realized that! icon_lol.gif Anne did great work, especially under the circumstances.

Anne was so upset when she came home from this challenge, but she did much better in her second challenge (which I think will air on May 17--and she was able to bring her creative director/head decorator, Cathy Olate, with her for that one, and Cathy is SOOOOOOOO talented!), so I can't wait to see that one!

It was a very ambitious design with lots of detail to be done in the time restraint with a novice assistant. If you know her personally, please relay to her that with all of that factored in, she did a great job. I absolutely respect her for working with the bride's dream cake design instead of trying to convince the bride "oh no ... you've no idea what you REALLY want ... let me show you want you want." That alone puts her at the top of my respect list.

Yeah indydeb, I agree. While the other 3 did great designs, they were "their" design and not the bride's.

As a hairstylist I would have been out of business years ago if I gave every client that sat in my chair the haircut that "I" wanted them to have instead of the haircut that "THEY" wanted.

I think as professionals we can "counsel" our clients a bit on design, but in the end they are the ones paying us, so we should deliver what they ask for.

I don't know Anne personally, but I thought her cake was pretty. I don't know if I am wrong here, but wasn't she the only one that really incorporated what the bride wanted.

Bobby's cake was beautiful, but the bride stated, Her colors weren't pink!" I do know that the chefs have to stand before the judges after the cake is finished, but I really thought that were hard on her...perhaps a little too hard??

Was this her first challenge? If so, to be your first challenge and be given someone that is not experienced to help?? I think she did a great job!!

I just finished watching it. And WOW did Buddy do amazing or what? How on earth did he get all those flowers done? The peony cake in my gallery took me weeks to do like 15 flowers-how did he do it? So beautiful.

Anne is one of my favorite designers ever. She is so talented and I think even that cake wasn't all too bad. I hope she gets back on the horse and shows them all the talent she has. I am so smitten with her bakery and cakes, I want to be like her when I grow up. (Except wait, we are probably the same age. icon_lol.gif )

I am with indydebi on this one..

Yes Buddy made a beautiful cake but it wasn't what his bride wanted.
Anne was the only one who followed her brides wants. If a bride came to me and said I want a white cake with black flowers I am sure not going to say no you don't, you want a yellow cake with green flowers and that is what you are getting !

Anne did a great job and followed the premise of the challenge.
I am so sorry that she was upset , and I don't think the judging stayed true to the task at hand.

I think at some point or another we all have to make a cake we are not happy with but if it is what the bride wants then it is what the bride gets. Although my favorite cake was Buddy's, Anne did a great job considering the design and bride she had to work with. I love their work!

NEED SOME HELP HERE TELLING THE TRUTH ON A BITTER SWEET WIN

Last night the challange i won aired and altough i won i thought i was was made out to be a cocky asshole on the show . the truth is i was so looking foward to seeing this and i was not happy with the edit of the show. i am not the most computer friendly guy in the world but i hope you guys could spread the word for me.

where do i begin first off being able to handle your bride is very hard but i meet with lots of them so i know what to do. the first thing the bride told me was i am having a garden themed wedding and i thought doing sugar flowers was a great fit so i was happy. the only thing that could of been a slight problem was the pink . i had a vision of what i wanted and she did not like baby pink and that was not my plan so i told my bride like i tell all my brides you gotta trust me and she did. i got really pised at the judges we actually argued for a couple of mineuts that no body saw. they said to me you had a great assistant and you got lucky. the truth is my bride was like any other bride that was there they all had no experiance in a kitchen. i sat my bride down and had her ball tool my flowers and i put everyone of those flowers together myself. and for those of you who make them that is no small task.i worked like a dog getting hundreds of sugar flowers together in 8 hours. inbetween ifilled stacked and painted on the cake . they did not even show me putting the flowers together or the 8 varities of flowers i made. my bride helped me paint the flowers i say the truth but the way it was edited looked like she did all the work and i was a cocky lucky guy. then we have kerry saying i would have airbrushed the flowers my god she is a genuise i never thought of that please kerry you cant compare that look of an airbrushed flower to one that has layers of petal dust and if would have airbrushed them they would of said a monkey could use an airbrush there is no skill involved so how do i win. i also get alot of interns at my bakery and i treated my bride like an intern and she helped me set up an assembly line of sugar flowers but being able to people to work and be productive is not as easy as it looks that takes skills trust me . and my ansewr to the judges was after patrick told me i did not use enough different skills i could not take it anymore i flipped iam like are you kidding me they had nothing to say i had a great cake and my bride had a garden themed wedding hello just say good job today buddy but no he had to go there so i told him that i guess he never made sugar flowers cause if he did he would not have made that stupid comment and that there was not a person in the room including kerry who could of made that many sugar flowers at that quality level in that amount of time and that was the truth. the crowd stood and clapped cause they saw it happen.

As far as ann and the rest of the compettitors we are all friends and i did feel bad for her with her bride . also when it is your first challange you do not know what to expect she will do fine in her new challanges . the judges were hard on her but they do not have a successful bussiness and she does and that is a better achievment then any challange.

lastly i am also pissed because this was the last challange i could of done and i just wanted to be shown as a great cake artist not a jerk. i am currently under contract with TLC i have my own show which will be called CAKEBOSS which will air april19 9 pm on tlc . My show will show my real life and really who i am and what i can do so i am excited about that. please check it out

so help me spread this tread so people se my disappiontment in a win.
THANK YOU

BUDDY VALASTRO

ps will be on good morning america on march 25 09 between 8 and 9 so chick it out

Buddy, you did come off a bit... er... cockier than usual on that challenge! I looked at my husband and said, "Yah, but he can back it up... his work speaks for itself!" We got a good chuckle out of that. Your cake was gorgeous, as always, and I predicted it was going to be the winner. The flowers were amazing... kudos to you on a job well done! I was impressed to see how you won over the bride to the pinks!! She was deadset against it until you worked your magic. In the end, it turned out perfectly!! I had to chuckle when you were complimenting her on how well she was doing, I said, "Oh yah, he's smooth... he has finessed a few brides in his day!" thumbs_up.gif

Buddy, I have to say anyone who knows anything about so-called "reality" TV knows they edit the HELL out of these things, to make it look drama-filled. When Anne returned from this challenge (I was interning in her shop at the time) she had nothing but GOOD things to say about you--that everyone was really sweet and VERY supportive of her that day, and that you were a really nice guy! She also knew it, being her first challenge, that it was going to be a struggle. She has already competed in her second (which will air in May) and from what i understand she fared much better).

I love when you compete in Challenges, and I am a HUGE fan of your work (being from NJ myself, I of course know your family business well!). You have a lot of people who admire and respect you around here... and in the cake community in general. VERY much looking forward to seeing your new show!

Take care.

Beautiful cake Buddy... I knew yours would win as soon as I saw the sketch. I also think it was about time- I thought you would have won that Christmas challenge with that awesome Santa you made.
It seems they have a habit of editing important parts of the taping for added drama, wasn't there just a thread on here about a damaged cake and poor editing??
Anyway, congratulations, and I'll look for your new show!

I really liked all the cakes myself...all of them had new ideas and the results were great! I don't know if anyone else felt this way, but I thought the setup was a bit unfair to all parties involved. I know it is a show and they want viewers, but the cake decorators and the brides had different goals. The brides wanted a free wedding cake that was their dream, and the competitors wanted to WIN. The competitors had to please the judges more than the brides based on the point setup.
Do you really think that gal would've taken the money and dumped Anne's cake? All the other brides got asked again if they liked the cake. This was not my favorite cake competition...I hope to see Anne again. She was so adorable and cute!!!

I have a question.....Buddy, WHY was this your last Challenge? Is it YOUR choice? I can't WAIT to see your show.

By the way, last night we were watching the show and my husband (NOT a decorator at all....but indulges his "lovely" wife) said about YOU when Keigan said it was a surprise (STILL haven't figured that out) "Well, his cake was the best cake.....he should have won" Plain and simple "Man thang" LOL

If I EVER get "out East" I want to come visit your shop....okay?

Buddy...i just want to say that I saw the last half hour of this show and totally didn't see you as a cocky decorator. We have seen this show edited strangely too many times and seen the judges give horrible criticism where it is not deserved. I saw right through them during the judging and was appalled! I could tell you were upset and I was glad you stuck up for yourself! I applaud you!You are an amazingly talented decorator and they had some nerve saying you should've used more technique. I always look forward to seeing you in the challenges and I'm glad you won plus, now I can't WAIT to see your show! I just happened upon this thread this morning and I am THRILLED about it now!

I hope your new show is everything you want it to be Buddy ;D

wow, thanks for the behind the scenes buddy. since i read your last posts about the show i didn't view you as a jerk but i think we all understand how shows can be edited to look whatever way they want it to go. i thought all the cakes were beautiful and i agree that yours should have won.

i felt bad for anne and thought she did amazing for her first show and to be put in such a diffictult situation. it looked like to me they matched brides and cake artists with opposite styles on purpose. i mean the "rock n roll" cake artist with the super traditional bride?? come on people!!

i don't know how much editing was done on the brides but it seemed to me they tried to make them all look as bitchy as possible (one of them didn't seem to need all that much editing ya know?) i mean who goes into a cake show thinking they are going to get everything exactly as they possibly could dream of for their cake without ever meeting or talking to the cake artist before hand and then making the cake in 8 hrs??? as they say..."that's entertainment!"

i look forward to buddy's new show!!!

I have a question... The bride won a free cake, but how did that work? The cake at the end looked identical (at least to my tired eyes!) to the original... They didn't commission Buddy to make it, right? They must have had to find a local decorator with as much talent, because the actual wedding cake was beautiful too...

I feel horrible when tears fall and feelings get hurt on any of those challenges. I'm sure, some of the viewers may think, "Damn! He/she sucks!"

My opinion(and I'm sure I'm not alone) is that there's a reason they're on those challenges...THEY ALL HAVE GOT MAJOR TALENT! When they showed the clip of Anne tearful, or the other challenger(please, forgive me...the crochem...(?) designer) I was like, "If they only knew how revered for their work they are..." Every one that goes on those challenges is at a level of caking that I hope to achieve one day. Awesome job to you all!

Buddy, I think you're hilarious in every challenge you've been on....You state things matter-of-factly and use terms most people would adjust for camera...I gotta ask 'cause I was all up close to the tv tryin' to hear it for sure...

Did you say "broads" in that interview snippet? Or was it "brides" with a heavy New Joisey accent?

I thought Buddy remade the cake. Cause it said something about how lucky she was that Buddy made her cake when they were showing the bride and groom cutting into the cake.

Don't take my word for it. That's just the impression I got!
