Seriously, just started selling my cakes mostly to friends. I can't believe how totally clueless people are. These are just snippets of countless emails I have had about this freaking castle cake. The woman is in construction and builds houses for a living - how can she not understand proportion. I'm sick of it already and I haven't even cracked an egg yet!

Friend - I'd like a princess cake with 10 servings and none left over.
Me - No problem, that will be a 6 inch round cake.

Friend - I saw a great Disney castle cake in a supermarket for $50 can you make it?
Me- Sure, but it'll be 28 servings and more expensive than the supermarket as the plastic castle kit costs $27.

Friend - Can't you make it smaller? I don't want to pay for all that cake.
Me - no, the size of the pillars in the kit dictates how big the cake should be to look proportionate. However I could make it just one tier.

Friend - could you just use two towers from the kit instead of four?
Me - I could but that won't make any difference to the size of the cake.

Friend But I want it to look like the one in the supermarket.
Me - Well then, I have to make a half sheet cake and cut and stack it.
Friend - Could you fake the bottom tier?
Me - Yes, but a dummy cake would probably cost more than a cake tier.
Friend - Oh, I thought you could use a shoebox or something.
Me - (rolls eyes, shakes head and gives up)

Yes, they just truly don't understand how costly the materials are and how much labor is involved!

OHHH! Of course! Why didn't I ever think of passing a soggy box covered in icing off as cake?? icon_lol.gif

I have had requests somthing like that for my castle cake too...Can you make it like the first one you made and it only needs to serve 15...Nope, that exact cake served at least 50. "But I only need 15 servings so is $30 ok?" hahaha ((((click)))) icon_lol.gif

I have people that ask me if I can do a cake for $20....and they want a full character cake. They dont realize that it takes hours to get the character to match their specifications. There was one woman that wanted me to do a 3 d version of her basset hound. Mind you she was aksing me over the phone and didn't meet me to give me a picture. I am sooo a beginner. So needless to say I did NOT do that cake! LOL!

Nursenlove, I am soooo with ya! I did a 1/2 sheet basketball cake for my 9 yr old's team, with an edible photo copy of the team on it. One mom says she needs one TWICE that size for her son's team. She asks me if I could do it, I say "sure", and she says, "it wouldn't cost more that $35 or $40, would it?" I say, try doubling that! She says, "I'll just pick one up at W-mart", and I say (or think) GOOD! People are JUST CLUELESS!!

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! You know I applaud all of your guys' patience. I have beem doing cakes for about 25 years (started as a child believe it or not) and I have decided that baking has always been my niche, something I can do & enjoy, so I am in the process of getting my kitchen licensed. But God please grant me the patience of these wonderfull CCers on here or I may not be in business long! icon_smile.gif

Debi - I can use a shoebox for a cake, like you can use bamboo straws for building studs. (hangs up phone and says, "Ya big dumba$$!)

Friend - oh, I thought you could use a shoebox or something.
Me - To support the weight of the towers attaching to the shoebox, I'll have to leave the shoes inside. I'll have to add $155 extra for the pair of Air Jordan's that will be included.
Friend - WHAT??
Me - well, I can't put used shoes....they're not food safe....

Where do people come up with the silly stuff they allow to come out of their mouths?

People are very cluless about how much time we put into them and I blame the grocerystores. Ha Ha (not really) You can get them cheaper there but they arent as personal. The shoebox thing is funny! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Hi,
long time to post anything but the shoe box is funny!

I had a bride in the shop last week. She looked at my "little" 4 tier fake cake and said , oh you know this is way too small for me. i want a big cake like 5-6 tiers. ok. ( wow i think, that must be the bride of my dreams... do whatever you want ) so she goes on and on and on... for 1h and i agree to draw up some samples and send her exact quotation of the price. Then she is ready to leave and drops the bomb. You remember i want the cake like i said but i am not willing to pay more than 350 euros. icon_confused.gificon_surprised.gificon_eek.gif
