Would you be willing to share the template or pattern that you used for the shoe? It is really cute and my granddaughter LOVES her pink Converse shoes. That little shoe would be perfect for her birthday cake.
Thank you all very much! Yes, this was a competition cake (dummy) that I entered in the Queen City Cake Competition March 6-8th in Cincinnati, Ohio. It placed 1st in the 3D Division and to my delight, also won The People's Choice Award! I was so thrilled!
Everything on the cake is edible. It's all fondant with a hand-painted royal icing "flap" on top. A high-end fabric designer inspired the bag design! The bottle is solid chocolate, the diapers are fondant, the shoes are gumpaste with royal icing "rhinestones" that were painted with silver glitter dust, the pacifier is also gumpaste and the keys were formed in a custom mold using fondant. I used FMM tappit cutters for the name "embroidery", and it's my niece's name "Avery Grace", but I lost the third plastic strip from my tappit cutter set, so had to spell her name with an "ie" instead of "y"! he he!
If you would like a copy of the template I used for the shoes, please send me an email at [email protected] and I'll get it right to you! The pattern is similar to one already posted here, but I couldn't get that pattern to work for me, so I made one to my liking!
Thanks, again!
Cammie
That is simply stunning...Wow.
You managed to make something we've all seen before (little converses) completely new and different.
I've seen silver Luster Dust, but never "Glitter Dust". It really does have a sparkle in the photo, too!
Where did you find Glitter Dust?
Oh Cammie, it looks wonderful!!! The painting is just beautiful. I couldn't stop staring at the ball fringe because it looks so fuzzy and real! I'm supper impressed, as usual. Would love to gawk at this one in person. Congrats on your awards. You sure worked for it!!!
It's also good to see you here!!

I borrowed it from a friend who entered cookies in the competition....I'll see where she purchased it from...it's similar to disco dust...but more glittery!
did you also use a template to shape the bag in right proportion? in making the flap -- did you wait for the fondant to be "half dry" before putting it on?
Oh wow! I was surprised to see this post on the front page after so many years! Wilma...I did not really use a template for proportion...just kinda carved until it "looked" right. I applied the fondant flap immediately after cutting it out to avoid elephant skin and cracking, etc.
Thanks so much!
A@cambo THANK YOU for your response. You're a genius!! Imagine doing everything "free-hand" and it turned so perfect & realistic too! Truly you deserved to win:)
I assumed that after you covered cake in brown fondant that's when you did the diamond impressions. And for the handle you did it after you already cut it in shape just before you'll attach it to the "bag".
With my questions you can tell i am VERY new in baking and decorating. But even with my EXTREMELY limited knowledge & skills i am a big risk taker -- LOL so i will attemp in making diaper bag for the 1st time BUT design/decor is simple.
I am guessing that your bag has 6layers of cake 10" long 6"wide & 6" depth --- if i'm right you used dowels to support layers of cake?
AAmazing cake! I would love the template for the shoes!! I tried clicking on your email but I keep getting an error when I try to send????? If its not too much trouble for you could you be so kind to email it to [email protected] ? Thanks!

Congratulations. It's a really nice feeling when your cakes are appealing to other people.
Just gorgeous,
Do you have a template for the baby bottle? I have such a hard time making those and would love them to look as authentic as yours does.

Thanks, Wilma! I actually impressed the diamond pattern BEFORE I placed the fondant on...also, this was not cake, it was for a cake competition, so it's foam....but I would have done everything exactly the same regardless. Yes, the strap was cut into shape/length before applying to the bag.

Thank you Claire138...the baby bottle is actually a 3D (2-part) chocolate mold that I picked up at my neighborhood cake decorating store. I just glued both sides together with chocolate after unmolding!
This cake is fabulous. May I ask, is the pom pom trim just balls of textured fondant attached individually with gum glue or piping gel and then string work added?
