AHi all
Kathy sending you love x
Bianx Tiddy is right great beginner cake well done you !
Kuuushi lovely flowers, I still have never even attempted a flower !!
Roxy your ship cake is totally awesome !! One day I'm going to have to invest on an airbrush mixing colours is so time consuming :-(
Petitecat your cake so neatly done too !
So after much flapping over recipe method and mixer I'm finally in a good place with my baking again won't say much more as much be annoying to all you experienced ones !! Anyhow I've been doing my nieces cake for tomorrow, still haven't used ganache I made but I was pretty impressed with this cake how smooth I got it with the bench scraper ...

So I will post pic of finished cake soon.. as I said I'm reusing Elsa !! I have re done Olaf though.
Hope everyone else all good :-)
I had abscesses in my tooth a couple of months ago Maisie and they were going to do a root canal but left me in pain for five weeks before I was getting it done so got it pulled out in the end. It pained for a couple of weeks while it healed and now its fine no more pain.
AOh maisie how annoying I've been putting off dentist for ages ! Got an appointment in July - hate going !!
Thanks Jo, your cake looks great so far. I am in the process of trying to make a peony, calla lily and magnolia but I don't have the cutter for the magnolia so just going to improvise and see what I end up with. I've made roses a few times Jo there not as hard as you think and there are so many different types that they look like roses even if they're not perfect which mine aren't. I haven't tried wired flowers yet though even though I have most of the stuff to make them.
ALovely smooth cake jo! Love doing anemones they're so simple!
Still no reply on the pin fiasco. Might have to be a dispute of it goes through until Saturday!
Just trailed my rose cupcakes but this time with colouring painted inside the bag undiluted. It had a pretty effect but quite inconsistent!

AThat looks really smooth jo, I'd love to get mine like that. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Looking forward to seeing your cupcakes too nanny.
Ew, sounds painful Roxy. I hate the dentist too, I'm ok with everything, needles, extractions, everything except having them scraped. Ugh! Goes through me! I'm 41 and I've never had a filling, I had 2 baby teeth that lasted me til I was 38 but my gums are weak apparently. What good are healthy teeth if your gums can't hang on to them!
ASorry Kuushi, didn't see those. Very pretty, I think the inconsistent colour looks realistic actually.
I hate the dentist to Maisie, to be honest I stopped going for a few years because I got fillings which I don't think I needed and veneers and within a few weeks the veneers had gone yellow. I went back but they out me in with the a different dentist in the next room and she said exact words " what has he done to your teeth " I let her redo the the veneers and never went back until I had no choice because I didn't trust dentists after that.
AThanks ladies I know it's only plain atm, but I was so pleased with the finish I had to share it !! It's a shame that I'm putting my lame attempt at ice round the sides of the cake !
Kuuushi lovely pink colours very pretty indeed !
Roxy when and if I ever have a grown up cake to do hopefully I will try Roses etc !!
Mr Roxy is cooking me tea it smells delish, I'll have to make him a special cake more often bet I get stuck with a pile of dishes afterwards though and he uses every bloody dish he can find.
AI lost confidence in dentists when I was 14, he wanted to take two of my baby teeth out because I had no adult teeth to come behind and push them out. He said they'll rot eventually so better to get rid of them before they cause a problem. But he left my bottom two baby teeth (to fester and rot I presume!) because I didn't have enough teeth on the bottom. I argued but I was a child, I had to do as I was told and my parents were just following the dentists advice- even tho it didn't make an iota of sense. To add insult to injury I had to have a brace to close the gaps the baby teeth had left. I was furious for 18 months! Oh and the bottom two baby teeth were the ones that lasted til I was 38 and even then, it was my gums not the teeth that was the problem.
Maisie it makes you wonder how some of them get qualified and keep there licence doesn't it. I didn't know you could have baby teeth that long never heard of it before.
Haha Maisie so did my first ones months before them ones, my daughter actually wanted to make them with me the first time I tried them and hers were better than mine, little fingers see instead of my chunky ones. Well that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it
Thanks for the compliments guys! Roxy I'm sure you can I've seen your work and I would say you could definitely do it! Get yourself a large petal nozzle and get on yourtube, you'll be bashing them out in no time lol
ALmao! I've got a confession to make and it's quite bad! On my birthday last year I'd decorated approximately 3 cakes in my life but I'd been baking for years and thought I was pretty competent (at baking, not decorating). I made a giant cupcake for the fist time in the JML silicone mould. It was awful, I mean truly terrible. It fell apart coming out if the mould so I tried to stick it together with buttercream. It was only for us for my birthday so I thought I'd decorate it anyway, how bad can it be. Bad! Very bad! No matter, it's still only for me, hubby and kids right? Wrong! It was my 40th birthday, my entire extended family landed on me all at the same time. My daughter kept asking for cake, I was shushing her or changing the subject or putting it off. When I couldn't put it off any longer, I brought it out and everyone just looked, stunned! I told them my little girl made it with my help! They believed me! And they're still none the wiser! That's terrible isn't it?!
Haha Maisie that's a great story
Kuuushi I think I may have a large petal nozzle I will have to look and think about giving it a try, do you just use normal buttercream or do you have to add anything to it so it stays?
Lmao, maisie thats brilliant! I did one of those when I first started decorating. It was murder covering it because of the folds!
Roxy, all you need is a crusting recipe this is mine:
250g salted butter
750g icing sugar
1 tbsp flavouring of choice
3 tbsp water or milk (water makes it crust faster).
Sieve the icing sugar, and you'll be off!
Having a crusting recipe helps because the petals look a little more realistic when they dry :)
Kuushi, thanks for the link. I did actually see that photo but I thought it was the front!
Bianx, that's pretty fabulous for a beginner. It took me quite a while before I got the hang of fondant. My first fondant covered cake was pretty disastrous!!
Maisie, I had my wisdom tooth removed because it was giving me grief. Even brushing it wasn't comfortable. It was great when it went! Only thing is though, I got a call from them (which I didn't answer) because I haven't been for a while. The thing I can't stand is having my teeth cleaned- that painful sensitive sensation and the noise of the drill is just too much! Quite a few years back I had a nice enough dentist with the most heavy hands imaginable. Every time I left his clinic my teeth were sensitive for days!
LOL Love your cupcake story. The first of many giant cupcakes! And look at your cupcakes now :D
Twonk? I missed that! Does it mean anything?
Jo cake's looking good :)
Kuushie lovely flowers. The colours are lovely, nothing wrong with it. Gives a nice two toned effect.
Roxy those flowers are really pretty.
ARoxy they are lovely ! I hope I can do it I would love to try soon ..
Maisie you proper crease me up !! I wish I could say that my kids did my dry cakes lol !
AThanks petitecat.
Roxy was did Mr Roxy cook you anything nice ? I just been for a run and now really can't be bothered to cook !
AHi guys!
Quick update on the crazy VW cake, her budget is £150 so I'm still going to work on it, just going to make her bits and bobs smaller. Will be a smaller stacked cake too. 10, 8, 6"!
AHey all. Long day at a conference today. It was so good, but now I have a gazillion things to trial in school and review. More work...!
Sorry to hear your sad news Kathy. Cwtches for you... xx
Thinking of TRYING to go reasonably classy with the tattoo cake. Drawn up a quick sketch. Thinking black rhinestone bling ribbons on the spacers, a single pink RKT sugar skull on the top surrounded by black roses: Thoughts? =/
AEvening all. Where to start eh?
Maisie, bad toothy pegs is not good, she says as wont even go herself! But I'm a baby.
Kuuushi, nice colours just coloured some buttercream blue to go with the white for a two toned cupcake.
Jo, very nice and smooth fondant.
Jean, twonk! Doesn't it kinda mean, an idiot? Something like that I think.
Bianca, like everyone said, its only practise, we‘be all been there!
Have I forgotten anyone? I went to work today unfortunately, God its gets in the way of my enjoyment it really does, grrr.
AKuushi I'm lost for words tbh. Just so I'm not imagining things, the customer sent you the picture yes? And they're saying their budget is £150? M4rvel your sketch is lovely, definitely classy. If that's your brief you're spot on. But. I was really liking the suggestions people were making earlier in the thread. The skull and top hat I think it was? I was imagining that on top of an Ed Hardy esque cake. I think a tattoo cake would be a perfect opportunity to do something a bit different, have some fun. Hope you don't mind me being honest. :-)
