On a separate note, all my posts are being held for moderation and I can't see how long this goes on for. Any ideas?
Morning all.
Welcome to the thread M4velgeek! Your frozen cake is impressive! What is the castle made of? Is it cake?
Nanny, your cake is lovely! really cute booties and tiny ted!
Siany, bet your son's going to have a fabulous day with his cake today. He and his friends should be impressed Happy birthday to Oliver
AThank you. I'm not 100% happy with it. The battle with the covapaste, the colours a bit darker than I wanted and It's very busy but I think that suits Oliver. I think my brain made the cake surface bigger in my head so it was a bit more spaced. I think he'll like it though. It's not his actual birthday till Tuesday but doing his party today. Got a mad busy day ahead and hope and pray I get his cake to the venue without killing it :/
I love the blue you covered his cake in and think the minions really stand out against it Siany, Have a fun day with your family
Catsmum your cake is in favourites congrats
AHi petitecat and thank you.
The castle is candy clay around a polystyrene mould:

This was the cake that I used sugarpaste direct icing on. I loved working with it and it have me one of the smoothest, flawless finishes I've ever had. I was really pleased with this cake and the bride loved it too :)
Ps re: ribbon around cakes/boards I use pritt stick. I use it on the edge of the board. For around the cake, I fold over one end of the ribbon so it makes a neat edge then I pull the ribbon taut around the cake but not so it'll damage it and then glue ribbon to ribbon. Really easy to do but hard to explain :)
Wow - where to start!
Barbara - that is a lovely cake - how do you say that name? (I thought it said "Joan" at first and I thought that a bit old fashioned these days but then I realised it was an "I")
Jo - lovely cake - I think you did a lovely job
M4arvelgeek - if you are new to caking, I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!
Lisa - that is so nice - you must be very pleased.
Off out today visiting folks and getting shopping and doing chores so probably not going to pop in until much later. Hope everyone who has a birthday has a great day (and I absolutely LOVE minions - that cake is so nice!)
Kathy
I was going to order from spd this week but needed it fast so went elsewhere but will deffo give it a try.
I always use pritt stick around the board too
Siany I love that minion cake! Im sure your little one will love it too :)
M4rvelgeek im a bit biased as ive just battled with one myself but that is fab! How you managed that if you are new to cakes is beyond me...and welcome too

Lisa how did you do the butterflies? Did you use cutters? If so which ones if you don't mind my asking. I'm doing my daughters holy communion cake and I'm putting butterflies on it and I love yours.
Jo, happy birthday !!!
Lisa, lovely cake!
Off to do stuff today. Hope you guys have a lovely cakey weekend x
Thanks Tiddy I know your busy, I have just tried that link but I really wanted something where it has a ruler so I can make it the size I want. I did manage to resize in microsoft word following Gray's instructions but it only has the ruler on the top and nothing for the length. I would like to try Publisher if it's not to much hassle for you, there's no rush whenever you have time thanks

I love this!! I love SPD too but they just hiked their prices and added postage so 5kgs just wnt from £13 to £20. I'm going to try and make my own next week but if that doesn't work I'm going to just do a bulk buy I think.

Wow that is some price hike!! Didn't realise it was by that much, I thought maybe a quid or two.. Not £7!!
The butterflies are wafer paper. I bought them off eBay, here's the link (it'll be a mobile link but you can copy the item number) http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/121201229924?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1 the seller was really helpful and as a bonus the butterflies are pre cut so you choose pop them out, fold them and stick them on!
No problem foxy, I shall do it later today :)
Im still trying to get my head around the golf bag cake Got some boards and dowels etc fro the diy shop but keep looking at the picture and changing my mind!
I watched an episode of amazing wedding cakes yesterday and they made a huge guitar cake upright! It was a beast of a cake and all she did was hot glue the cake board it was on to the support board...and it stayed there! So now im thinking that im overthinking it too much. The bag will only be 12" long so surely I can do the same
Ive just this vision of it all sliding down and ending up a pile of cake at the bottom
Thanks Tiddy do you need me to PM you my email address?
I'm sure the hot glue idea would work for your cake it's suppose to be really strong stuff, if you don't have a hot glue gun I saw one in Home bargains it was only cheap and they normally always have the glue sticks in.

That price is only if you buy one pack at a time, if you buy 3 packs it's still free, and 3x white is only £42 delivered which is still very good. It stays good for ages so bulk buying is hopefully not too much of a problem :-)
I'm amazed they did free post for so long on small amounts, it must have cost them a small fortune, and I don't know another sp online seller that sends free with no minimum spend. I'd hope for £7 though that the postage is better than 5-7 days!

yes please :) Ive several hot glue guns ...I guess the only thing to do is try it and see if the weight of the choc fudge cake holds up to the incline
I have just Pm you Tiddy. I'm sure the choc fudge cake will hold up and the ganache which I assume your using will make it even more sturdy.
AIf anyone's interested, I've just ordered with spd and got £3 off each set of 3 boxes, bringing white down to under £39 delivered. I didn't do anything special, it just showed up as an extra discount on the PayPal page :-)
Now I just have to hope I can use it at some point - I have my first paid cake for 10 weeks on the 14th (getting really fed up that I can't bake :() , but at the moment I don't have a wall in the kitchen and there is thick dust everywhere! It's looking more and more likely that I'll have to invade my mum's kitchen to work!
