JO the film was good but I love all the xmen films, there was some young lads messing about in there though felt like getting up and giving them all a slap

12" should be sufficient Jo  but go with what you think looks best.

ACant remember the last film we saw at cinema, I think cinema prices are so high in comparision to what they were! Cinema used to be a cheap night out, not amymore!

I have coloured enough sp for the 12" so will go with that, only the small date going on the pink board so don't really think the board background needs to be huge. Let's hope I'm right !

Night all :-)

AThank you Roxylee. Yes, I saw that:-)

My son invited to some friends for a movie and that is what they watched. Sent the boys with hubby and they all loved it. It seems a very good movie. :)

Victoria- WOOOW!! Before I zoomed in on the photo I thought that was glass! Is it for a birthday?

Jo, I think the 12 will be big enough :)

Bashini, saw your cake on favourites! Well done!

Siany, you'll have to add white food colour to make MMF white. I used liquid glucose and vanilla essence on mine and it cake out ivory. No need for corn syrup as liquid glucose is the same thing except it is thicker. Though I'd be interested to see what results Roxy gets from using corn syrup :-P

I'm cream crackered. I've finished the book cake (except for the title) while keeping the 5yo occupied (rather a lot of movies but I had no choice), taking her to karate class (trial session, she hated it), cooking tea and hiding the cake from the teen! Birthday girl is 16 tomorrow- time flies!

night night all x

You can always offset the cake on the board. As long as it's centred on two edges you can pull it back so that it's flush (or nearly flush) with one edge and gives 3" to the front for the text.

Finished my bell jar cake! :D

I painted this with trompe l'oeil effect to look like a flower inside a glass bell jar.

just shown your pic to hubby. He did a quick look (you know, that 'ffs, another cake?' look :-) ) and said 'that's nice'. He then did a double take, looked properly, and said 'actually that's excellent'.

And it is awesome :-)

Thanks never thought of that ! Would I still centralise the top square cake on the bottom one though? :-)

Even though it is lovely paste I found it really hard to get on with prob because I am not experienced enough.  I found it tore very easy on the draping method.  Brilliant for keeping shape (it has Tylo added) still had elephant skin on the corners. Was disappointed on the battle I had with it over the Sainsburys one. I am sure someone with extensive experience with rolling and covering a cake wouldnt have these issues but twice I tried to drap over and it just didnt work ended up using the strip method.

AIt's funny isn't it chasingmytail. I had none if those issues with it. It rolls lovely and evenly, no elephant skin, no cracking or tearing, I love it. I haven't done that many cakes tbh but just find it easy. I managed to fix the issues I had with covapaste last night with the cracking on the edges by covering it in trex but it shouldn't happen.

AHi Jo, you can, or u can just have both cakes at back. I tend to sit both back if I do it that way as I think it's easier on the eye, but really I think it's personal preference. :-)

Hey chasingmytail, I use spd unless I want a pastel colour (then I use sattina so I can be lazy and not colour it). It is very stiff to work with cos of the tylo, so you really have to knead it well or you will get the crazing. It takes me longer to get it workable compared to sattina, but when it is 'warmed up' I find it gives a much better performance than anything else I've tried and doesn't tear at all.

My instinct if it's tearing would be that it's not been kneaded long enough, because the tylose in there should give it a good elasticity (like when you just add it yourself to sugar paste and knead, it makes it streeeetchy).

Using a good smear of Trex on my hands when kneading really helps to alleviate any dryness that might be there.

AHappy anniversary Tiddy :-)

Thanks Lizzy will see what I think when cakes covered.

Roxy just put choc cake in the oven for top tier and somehow a piece of kitchen roll flew into the oven, so was probably half a min if that before I noticed but as cake in for just over an hour thought best to swiftly take it out. It was right at the front and was very quick opening so hopefully the cake rise won't be affected ?!! Could of screamed lol..

Hey Roxy/Tiddy

This is one of the isomalt bottles I've done - it's good fun to work with :)

Yes it's edible, it's like an unflavoured boiled sweet. It's also what they use for stunts in films (this or normal sugar, but that doesn't last as long when it's used for caking) - I do have the video of me smashing a test bottle over hubby's head somewhere, I must dig it out and show you all :-D

Haha Thanks Petitecat my list is never ending to, I love the stencils I have used them quite a few times, I especially like the word ones, the happy birthday I used on my daughters birthday cake last year is in the thread photos and I used the merry christmas one on my xmas cupcakes. I was really happy with that one as it was the perfect size for the cupcakes.

Yep, I did :-D The thing is it was the first bottle I'd done, so it was quite thick - hubby had a lump afterwards :-D

It isn't hard to work with, it's just that it's stinking hot so make sure you and your surface is covered. I bought the stuff you have to temper which just involves getting it to the right temperatures. If you're using the same stuff it's recommended to use bottled water to stop it yellowing when you want a clear glass effect. I didn't for my ice and it was yellow (ewww), hence the glace mints instead :-)

The mould was a marvelous molds one. Pigging expensive but I've used it a few times now.

You can use solid moulds or silicone. The bottle is a reusable silicone mould that we made ourselves with the mm kit. I want to do beer bottles next :-)
