Sorry your having trouble Jo maybe when the paste has rested it will work a little better for you.

Tiddy that's great new about the enquires just a shame there wasn't more people there but people talk at schools so word of mouth will help they will be tell all the other mums about your fab cake bag.

Thanks Petitecat it actually looks smoother on the photo than it actually was. When I unwrapped the MMF and cut it in half it looked stiff and dry so I thought oh I've done it wrong, I started to knead it anyway which was hard work as was quite stiff so popped it in the microwave for about 10 seconds rubbed some trex on my hands and kneaded and it was so much easier then. It was really easy to move about and cover the cake with as it was a bit like a softer version of gumpaste really so no chance really of it tearing and no elephant skin at all.I did get quite a few bubbles the first time I rolled it but have been with my SP recently when I had always only got one or two. I thought this was the way I was kneading it but have watched videos and I am doing it right, then I remembered I have always kneaded the SP into a ball then bashed gently across it with the rolling pin to flatten it a bit then shaped it to a circle/square.I had stopped doing this and was just using my hands to flatten it and think maybe the bashing is knocking the bubbles out of the paste.  When I rolled it the second time with the bashing  only 2 or 3 bubbles in it. I rolled it thinner than I do SP only 3mm instead of my usual 5mm and it was fine, I am going to try mixing it with SP and see what that is like so it will have the stretch to cover the corner well but have a nicer feel .I said it tasted sweet when I made it but it wasn't very sweet at all when it had rested.

Your dummy looks great Roxy and sounds like you are getting on well with MMF. Once coloured SP how long do you leave it to rest and do you bag it up straight away ?

Nanny I wish I had said no, however at least its another thing gone wrong and hopefully all these mistakes I must get to learn from them somehow ?!?!?

Jo if I need a lot or a dark colour I do it a day or two before and wrap it well, if I just need a small amount I just do it when I need it and use it straight away. If it is to soft I add icing sugar or corn flour and if its cracking and getting elephant skin which it seems to with a lot of colour in it I add trex and roll out with corn flour.

Ok thanks Roxy for your tips I was all a bit of a blur with the green in the end as I was frantically trying everything to get it pliable, maybe over kneaded too much and too much Trex made too soft, think in future I will colour it knead in some icing sugar if too sticky then use next day (I did all this same day).

Pizza cutter will be out later I'm sure !!

yup thats the one i have. I get a lot of bits from china as so cheap and if im not in a hurry i can get a few bits together. Postage usually free too :)

If the sp is too soft i add a pinch of gum trag, knead well theb bag for an hour. Usually sorts it out. Too dry and a bit of trex :)

Jo, I am really sorry that this happened to you. This is why I hate colouring the sugar paste. It all goes so soft. But hope you can sort it out.

Tiddy, fabulous cake!!!

AHi all. I finished my 2nd dummy today:

There's still tissue under the flower (anemone). You can see the tears on the side so I will have to add more dots. I was hoping I wouldn't have to, because my design was meant to be simple. Its tesco fondant that I used.

Bashini that's a great burger!

I hear some people don't colour their SP anymore if they have an airbrush- they just use their airbrush! Must say, that sounds like a most fabulous idea.

Jo, I wait after colouring my SP mainly because if it's a particular colour I'm going for, I wait till the colour deepens which it always does after about 15mins. I think tesco SP is just way too soft. I'm going to try waitrose next and MMF.

Roxy, just made MMF. I didn't add all the sugar because the MMF seemed to be getting stiff and dry. Did you add all yours? It seemed to imply in the instructions to add as much as needed- am I right? Wrong? It is resting now and I'll try it tomorrow. I only made half the recipe because I didn't have enough mallows like I thought I did! Oh and also, I used liquid glucose because I had it in the cupboard- it is quite thick so I think that accounts for some of the stiffness.

Bashini, it is for the summer fair at my daughter's school. I'm showing the peppa pig cake and that flower cake, just to show the people that I can do kiddie cakes as well as mature designs.

I will be making a wedding dummy cake but not for a wedding fair. Just to show on my website. I'm not too sure I'm ready for a fair but I should start making initial inquiries just so I have the info. I was interested in the Little Black Book- have you heard of them?

Was just wondering, does anyone think the grey flower is too small? The trend seems to be for huge flowers on cakes so I just wondered!
