It certainly will when they see how good you are Tiddy. I got my gas and electric bill emailed earlier today and because of the solar panels I had fitted I am £159 in credit so I'm now gonna use that as my excuse for spending, because I'm actually saving money
AGod if my internet gets any slower I'm investing in a carrier pigeon, it has to he quicker than this :/ lol

ARoxylee, I put mine in the over for 15mins, then turned the oven off and just left it in there till it was coldish, I deform think its made easier with the Claire bowman knife.

Yep, scissors or scalpel depending on the pattern. I took all the short edges off the ophelia pattern for my cake so that there are no definite joins all the way around :-)
Nanny I have just took the air dried lace out of the mats, they turned out great and were easier to release they seemed a little more flexible.

On the subject of BC, I've been using SMBC for my cakes. It is lovely, not sweet like American BC. A recipe for filling and covering an 8" cake has 1 C + 2 Tbsp of sugar + 1-2 tsp of vanilla flavouring. I omit the Tbsps of sugar depending on how much vanilla flavouring I'm going to put in (depends on what cake it's going on). I find it just the right amount of sweetness.
I have a recipe for SMBC in my craftsy class but have not tried it yet. how does it compare to BC for covering a cake and standing up to temperature changes . Would you mind sending me your recipe please Petitecat so I can compare to mine, I would rather use one with less sugar.
Yes Nanny I guess it is. I will have to try airbrushing some to colour them see how that turns out.

Glad you have all been enjoying Lakeland haha. And you have me wanting to try a baileys cake now too. Can't believe I've never tried one. Made a baileys trifle once though that was amazing!

AOh and who was it that mentioned they had just bought a dinky? Where did you get it from at that price? Jealous much haha.

Hi roxy, if you look for How to Cook That on you tube, the lady who does the videos has one comparing several types of buttercream, including SMBC. It's quite interesting. It doesn't hold up as well as ab as there isn't so much sugar giving it structure, but I did see recently that if you add a bit of shortening (trex etc) it helps with stability.
Not sure what it would do to the taste as I've not tried it, but then I haven't had any real problems with the standard SMBC yet - I guess it's cos it's generally not too hot here! :-)

Well the plan was to go bribe the headmaster with cake but would you believe its flipping raining in sunny wales today! Typical.....hope it stops for this afternoon because soggy bag cake wont be a good look!
Cant wait for my lace to turn up so I can have a play :) Got to catch up on these minecraft cakes today though as theyre going tomorrow eeek!

I have covered SMBC with fondant no problem, but yes it is a tad softer than regular AB. I get raves about it though so no way I'm going back to AB! I might try adding shortening next time in small amounts and see how it holds up like Lizzy said. I think it's really only when you put it under a blazing sun where you'd have problems!
My cousin asked me for my buttercream recipe, so I gave her the SMBC recipe. She said 'Oh, I didn't realise it's so much work to make it. I might try something else'. LOL
Roxy, have you tried rolling out your MMF?
Thanks Petitecat, no I haven't tried rolling my MMf yet but will do later on today. I am going to try covering my square dummy with it but have the dummy upside down so the corners are sharp and see how it does on them, I will post a pic showing the result.
No one ever realises how much work goes into making a cake do they until they have to do it themselves.

Snap! At the wedding fairs I do, I get comments constantly about the icing as it's not tooth-achingly sweet, and it is smooooooth. I'm not a huge fan of cake *lizzy seeks shelter from the cakey missiles coming her way *, but I love the buttercream.
You can add so many different flavours to it as well, and because it's less sweet to begin with it takes them really well. I ran out of time doing my son's b/d cake in March, and didn't have time to make a ganache to add for a chocolate buttercream, but had a brainwave and walloped in half a jar of Nutella. He has no idea how much I love him that the icing ended up on his cake and not on my hips
