AHi all ;-) had such a manic couple of days had afternoon tea at a lovely place near me and upgraded to have champagne with it but it didn't end there me and my friends stayed out all afternoon and evening ! I found myself being really critical of the cakes ha ha !

Lucky for us our lovely hubbies had children, feeling it now though !! Especially after my sister in law dragged me and my family round a zoo today - could of done without that on a hang over !!

Mel lovely wedding cake and yours is too Bashini :-)

Tiddy your minecraft cake was great mine will not be that fiddly as going for a quick version as friend only paying me for ingredients as it's her sons 7th birthday which my daughter is actually going to his party so I will be taking cake with me!

Wow Bashini your cake is gorgeous you must be over the moon with that well done.;-D

Tiddy love the birdcage the colours are lovely. I bought a square dummy the other day to practice and they had the shape of a birdcage set up in them but it still never even occurred to me to try it on a dummy :duh: Thinking now that would be a better way to try the things I want to without being overrun with cake.

Lovely cakes Bashini and Tiddy!

Happy hols Kathy- I'm not jealous at all lol!

I haven't watched the show about cake lace yet- I have recorded it like Nanny! My cake dummy arrived so I'm planning to make another cake dummy for the school fair- a more adult oriented one this time. After that I'm making a simple 3 tier wedding cake dummy. Hmm I've a feeling I definitely NEED cake lace for that one...

AI started making my man for my boxing ring , took at least 4 attempts just to get the torso right, tried to make lines for a 6 pack, not a easy as you think, he's lying down at the moment with cocktails sticks coming out of his feet and no hair, strange sight if I'm honest, could scare babies even!! Then need to make another one, on the floor this time, hate modelling as it never goes to plan, well not for me it doesn't anyway.

Too hot & sweaty today to be in the kitchen - been outside, putting up an electric fence and hand cutting weeds & grass between saplings. Will head in there tonight to look at some stuff.

A quick question, if I may:

I'm going to be attaching nigh on 100 gumpaste butterflies to a four tier wedding cake.  I'm intending to stack two tiers, put the butterflies on, and the do the next two tiers with butterflies, and then only put the four tiers together at the venue.  I'll leave some space near the join so I've got maneouvering room and stick the last few on at the venue.  My question is, what should I use to stick them on?  For my practise cake I used melted white choc which worked really well and was secure almost instantly, but I doubt I'll have access to anywhere to melt it.  The other alternative is royal icing but I'm worried that it wouldn't give such a quick hold?

What would you recommend?

And do you think my plan is wise?

Thanks.

ASounds fab lizzie, I've always used royal icing , I find it sticks instantly, like you said you dont have any means to melt choc do you?

Hi Lizzie welcome to the thread sorry I can't say if you plan is wise as I have never had to stack elsewhere as I only bake for family and friends. Re attaching the butterflies if you wanted to use white chocolate I have read about people having it in a pipping bag that they keep warm buy wrapping it in foil and then in warm tea towels that of course would depend how far you have to take it. I also saw something were they heated a plate warming mat and put the wrapped pipping bag in that so it kept it warm and melted.Of course they had to unplug it to take it with them but I should imagine it would stay warm for a while. The other ladies on here are probably more qualified to answer. I think royal would work just as well.

Nanny good job on the peony,I think maybe it needs a bit more space between the layers of petals and a couple more petals to cover the ball in the centre.I haven't made one myself yet so just going off ones I have seen on cakes and google images.

AFab caterpillar Siany, I'm so excited to see all of your work come together!

Still very warm here too, been working an cake designs today thankfully though so nothing strenuous :) Trying to combine Tiffany blue & cream with an accent of burnt orange, which is proving tricky!

Nanny great first effort! Being totally honest, you probably just need to work on the thinning and frilling? The paste does look a little thick which is probably why there's not much 'movement' in the petals? Try going thinner when rolling out then use a ball tool to thin and frill the edges a bit more, and try to cup them in a little. For the one on my lace cake I made about 50 petals so you can see how you need to go thin with your paste :) There's a McGreevy tutorial on YouTube which is a good place to start? :)

Lizzie, wow that's quite a job lol! I've not had to do anything like this for a delivery yet, but I think your plan sounds sensible keeping the join area clear to transport and then fill it in once stacked. In terms of attaching the rest I am not sure, if you've no way to melt choc then royal is your only answer I think? Although your venue must have access to boiled water? If you've only got a small amount of candy melt/choc to use then you can sit it over a mug or something to melt it down and then keep it wrapped in foil etc? Someone once suggested I use those hand warmer pouches for this purpose but I've yet to try that out!
