Oh I wished!, Strip cutter im afraid

to be fair it really didnt take me long to add the squares

just searched the thread for the bottle question. Is it a large one? I generally use confectioners glaze for small pieces and the spray type for large

No Tiddy - not that large - around 4 inches.  I want a high shine on it and was aiming to use leaf glaze but not sure if that will be shiny enough :(

Morning all what a lovely day.

Jo I mix food colour or dusts with vodka to paint on cakes. I do use pens sometimes for for little things,Bought this recently but haven't used it yet.Saves buying a different colour pen everytime I need, one just put a new nib in and dip in you food colour mixed with vodka.Wait until the SP has firmed to draw on it.

Petitecat thanks for the info on the cupcake bouquet.

Tiddy great mine craft cake.I have looked at 'the mat' a few times but it has so many mixed reviews and is a bit pricy, is it hard to use?

Dayscakes corn syrup is clear unlike golden syrup, Tesco are suppose to sell it in their american section but I don't go very often so have yet to find out, I want some to try making modelling chocolate.I have seen people on the internet using confectioners glaze for a shiny finish they do a few thin coats until they get the shine they want.

Chasingmytail what is it they say you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family, shame that

Its not to bad once youve had a practice but I can tell you its not as easy as they tell you! First time I tried I gave up, rolled it up stuck it back in the tube and said never again lol but when it came to the camo cake i remembered i had it and had seen it used for camo so gave it a go. I Think for zebra, camo, tie dye etc its a great bit of kit.

AThere's too much for me to catch up on I'm afraid but just wanted to say:

Natt well done on your job that's great news.

Tiddy I'm so jealous of your cake room it looks perfect for caking.

Nanny I'm jealous of your kitchen table and kitchen too, my kitchen is tiny it's a right pain.

Lovely minecraft cake too (sorry forgot who it was).

Darn I wish I had more time to keep up with forum this week.

AOh and Jo I use edible pens because I'm hopeless at piping or painting. You have to leave the sugarpaste to firm up and dry a little first and there is kind of a knack to using them, not top hard not too light, but they're good for getting details on there that you can't do with other things (or at least that I can't do with other things). A black edible pen is definitely worth having at the least but some brands are just rubbish they don't work at all.

AMy favourite is AmeriColor. I've tried sugarflair and didn't like them, the AmeriColor pens are a lot bolder. I've not tried the Food Doodler pens that I've just spotted on ebay though I think they might be new. AmeriColor has the benefit of being able to write on chocolate too which I've found that most of the other cats - good for cake pops.

Phew - cake delivered, in one piece and the Bride loved it :)

After all the worry about the flowers, I only used half in the end LOL!! I added the flowers to the base, then took the rest to add once the cake was in place, but when the Bride saw it she said it was perfect as it was! Not going to argue as I do think this looked nice:

So I now have a load of spare flowers - but I am sure I'll find a use for them :)

Will catch up properly in a bit, need to have a sit down and catch up with the housework - boo! Or maybe persuade DH a pub lunch is in order today.....

OK quick catch up:

Nanny, lovely kitchen! Love the table and your curtains :)

Re shiny bottle I havent used much glaze TBH, the only one I have is the PME glaze spray can? That works pretty well but Ive only used it for things like leaves..

Cool Minecraft cake Tiddy (loving the squirrels!) Hows your finger doing? I was cleaning out my extruder (very carefully) last night and thought of you LOL

Love the silver and white cake pic - that scallop effect looks similar to one Jessica Harris did in her Craftsy class, I think she used a circle cutter? She did silver leaf too, using loose leaf transfer backed sheets. She made it look really easy LOL and Im sure its not! I really want to try it though!

Congrats on the new job Natt! Great that it will fit in around you as well.

Erm right, better get on before DH wonders where Ive got to! Sorry to anyone Ive missed - have a lovely day in this glorious sunshine!

Mel - the cake is beautiful!  I think the flowers look just right too.  I do have a PME spray as well as glaze but I might have a go at the corn syrup glaze - it's going to be red wine so I think golden syrup will be OK.  If it doesn't work then I'll know - so I will probably do a few bottles to see what the best result is.

Roxy - such cute babies - are they made of fondant?

Tiddy - I like the Minecraft cake but more because of the checkerboard effect!  Lol - I have no idea what Minecraft is.  Did you cut the squares out individually and stick them on a base of sugarpaste?

Well there's no sun here in London - it's very warm and looks like rain at any minute.  So enjoy the sun those of you who have it!

Lovely cake Mel!

Just as a word of warning DaysCakes – the last cake I did was a snail cake and I thought I’d do the trails with a thin layer of golden syrup brushed on.  It looked fine when I put it on (and wasn’t behaving as if it was runny), but the next day when I came down it had flowed down over the sides into gloopy little pools of golden syrup on the cake board!  Added somewhat to the general air of sliminess!  I’d be interested to see how your experiment goes

It's been really sunny here - think I may have got a little sunburnt!

Mel what a lovely cake! Love the flowers and the monkeys :)

Roxy the babies are cute but it does seem weird if people eat those figures lol!

Well I had a bit of a disaster today delivering the cupcake bouquet. Hubby pulled out into the road from our driveway WAY too quick and because one of the outer cupcakes was at an angle- it slid out!! Fortunately the cupcake was ok- didn't get dirty or anything but the frosting got squashed. So back we went to the house and I took off the icing. Got leftover icing from the freezer and put it in the microwave. It took forever to soften so I put it on a higher wattage and half of it melted!! I was pretty panicky by this point but managed to salvage the icing that hadn't been nuked, whipped it all up in the mixer and used it to pipe another rose onto the cupcake. phew.

The rest of the day was glorious- really hot weather so we were all lathered up in sunscreen in the park. Had a decaff mocha frapuccino from starbucks to reward myself on the cupcake save lol.

I hope you all had a great day today :)

Thanks Tiddy!  That's great.  I used piping gel and vodka once on a bottle but I got a rippled finish.  I think the other methods are def worth a go.

AI think I missed your original question about glaze Kathy but when I last used it I bought this ClassiKool liquid edible glaze for a white bottle and it worked well. It needed a couple of coats with a brush to get it quite shiny but it didn't run or pool too badly and gave a nice shiny finish. It wasn't expensive either and I used so little from the bottle it'll last ages. Hope that helps.

I'm off to bed now, I'm not really a warm weather person I hate the heat haha. I know you'll probably all curse me but it's been far too warm today! It's tired me out trying to stay out of the sun!

AMorning my cakey friends, glorious day! Not that I'll be seeing a lot of it, gonna get started on some figures etc, I have the time so better make the most of it.

What you all up to then?

Bashini, your cakes are beautiful as they always are. What colour did you use for the pinky colour roses?
